About Footsteps Nursery Fradley

Footsteps Nursery Fradley is set within a converted barn on Sandy Hill Farm. Our nursery offers a calm, home-from-home environment for children from birth to five years, with consistent, nurturing care so children feel safe, settled and ready to explore. We welcome families into our warm community, where relationships and clear communication shape each day.
Children learn through play-based experiences, including sensory play, early communication, creative activities and outdoor exploration. Every room has its own garden area, so our children can move naturally between indoor and outdoor spaces while we keep routines familiar and reassuring.
Beyond the room gardens, our children also enjoy a shared barn space, a treehouse-style forest school area and our dedicated sensory room. In these spaces, we support active play, curiosity and calm moments, promoting physical development and emotional wellbeing.
Each child is supported through our key person approach, and we build trusting relationships with children and their families so care feels consistent over time.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Nichola Wigley

Hi, I'm Nichola, the manager at Footsteps Nursery Fradley. I've been working in childcare since 2016 and hold a BA Hons in Education. I started with Footsteps as a room senior, then moved to duty manager, then deputy. I covered a manager's maternity leave and then moved to manage Fradley in March 2020.

My approach to childcare is calm and fun. Children need an environment where they feel relaxed and happy so they can explore, learn, and be themselves. Keeping things light and enjoyable means children look forward to coming to nursery each day.

What I love most about this work is supporting families during such a vital part of their parenthood experience. Seeing children developing and knowing the nursery plays a role in that journey is incredibly rewarding. Building those relationships with families and watching their children flourish makes every day worthwhile.

Nursery is amazing, never had any issues. Nicola is a fantastic nursery manager and runs the nursery so smoothly. I feel my child is very well looked after while I go to work. For me this is the most important thing as I know I can go to work and not worry. Staff are great, friendly and I always get a good hand over on pickup. Food seems to be good, gives them a good variety and they get to eat different things. My little enjoys the food here very much. I have no hesitation with sending my second child here.

Coming from a crazy protective mommy, after having a poorly baby as a new born. From babies to now toddlers, can't fault the nursery at all. Each and every staff member that has ever looked after my little boy, have honestly been fabulous! He loves going to nursery, and has the best time. The communication is great, handovers are always very detailed, great photos and observations! And always happy to listen and support with any concerns I have at home. Not emotionally prepared to leave toddlers, couldn't recommend it enough. They all work so hard and do a fabulous job!

Very happy with Footsteps Fradley, our daughter loves it there! She started attending at 9 months old, she’s now 2 and her development is outstanding. The staff are great, very compassionate, happy and helpful. The facilities are also great, including a forest school, and very clean.

Lovely, friendly staff who have welcomed my child into their setting so well. It is a wonderful nursery with caring staff and lovely facilities for all children to learn and explore. The settling-in process from initial phone calls, nursery walk-arounds and finally settling-in days has been a positive process and has eased the transition.

Staff are always very welcoming and friendly whenever we are collecting/dropping off our child for the day. We have just enrolled our second child to start in April and feel with how happy our eldest has been at the nursery for, always excited to go to nursery and looks forward to what is planned each day. Good variety of food options provided each day, with a snack. It’s nice reading on the board what they have planned that day. The staff are always more than happy to assist with any queries that we have had and advise us accordingly. Cannot recommend enough!

My little boy has been going to Fradley Footsteps since he was 1. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. They are always happy to help with anything. My little boy has progressed so well whilst being at the nursery. He has made some wonderful friends. The facilities are fantastic, with plenty of outdoor and indoor space. The menu is always well thought out and offers a wide range of food on a rotating weekly basis, my son eats things at nursery he won’t even touch at home. We have enjoyed our experience here so much that we have already signed our youngest son to attend as well.

We have had a great experience so far. My son has been in the baby room and has developed really well. He has recently transitioned to the Movers room and has settled instantly. All the staff are great and so friendly. The facilities at the nursery are great and we absolutely love the outdoor space and the fact that they try to spend as much time as possible outside. We are also really happy with the food provided, lots of healthy varied meals.

We have kept our son at this nursery even though there are other nurseries closer to where we live as he is so settled here. He always has lots to tell us when he has finished for the day and they have lots of activities, including yoga. The fact they have an emphasis on outside play is fantastic and the staff are really lovely and caring.

My little one has recently joined (c. 8 weeks ago) and seems very happy already. The staff are incredible and very positive/happy and they have made settling in a breeze for us. The activities they do daily are brilliant for child development and social skills and the routine has been great for my son who probably lacked routine at home. Only bit of constructive feedback is I would like to see more vegetables introduced at mealtimes. But aside from that, we are very happy with Footsteps Fradley and feel at ease when we drop our son off in the mornings. Really lovely nursery.

My daughter has attended Fradley Footsteps since she was 12 months old. She is now almost 3 and has done nothing but thrive in the setting. The staff make such an effort to get to know all of the children personally, making bonds with them that provide us as parents with the reassurance that they are in safe hands. My daughter’s development has come on leaps and bounds since starting at Fradley Footsteps, to a level that I know she wouldn’t achieved had she not attended, and she always comes home with a massive smile on her face telling us about how amazing her day was. The manager runs the nursery perfectly, she is always so friendly and attentive and is such a credit to the setting. I cannot recommend the nursery enough and wouldn’t want my daughter to attend anywhere else.

Our high expectations of Footsteps Fradley have been totally exceeded. After coming from another nursery, we had an idea of what it might be like, but every element of Footsteps Fradley was better from the facilities, the team, the activities and level of care. We totally trust all the team with the care of our little girl. They know her so well and she comes home with so many stories from the day filled with so many activities. She has learnt great lessons and it’s clear from her interactions, songs and habits that they are taught valuable lessons through fun and repetition. My son has been attending nursery for just over a year and he absolutely loves it. We’ve seen him grow in confidence and change so much. They put on plenty of different activities every week so they are doing different things and learning at the same time. The outdoor space is great and it’s great they can go outside anytime as some areas are under cover. The staff are always so cheerful and helpful with anything we have asked.

All the staff are friendly and kind, they greet both me and my daughter with a smile and warm welcome. My daughter goes over with open arms and is always so excited when we pull into the car park. Since starting in the baby room (now in toddlers), she has thrived and excelled in meeting her next steps and that is all down to the amazing team at Footsteps Fradley Nursery & Pre-School! My daughter is a confident and outgoing child and I find the nursery perfect for supporting and helping her due to the amazing outdoor space they have to offer. My little girl has been going to Footsteps Fradley Nursery & Pre-School since she was a baby, she is now 3 years old. The staff are amazing, warm, welcoming and nurturing. The facilities available are great, large barn with bikes and scooters, outside area with forest school. Great diverse menu on offer We now have guinea pigs too, which the children love. She has made some great friends here and we will be sad to leave.

Since starting the nursery last year, my son has come on leaps and bounds with his speech and toileting. Very much so recently. The outside space is amazing and suits his needs as he is very much an outside child. He has great relationships with the carers in the rising 3s room and they have been brilliant with settling him in and getting him ready for the next part of his adventure which is pre-school. He’s also learnt many things such as putting on his own coat and naming colours. The encouragement for independence is just what I’m looking for and I hope it continues when in pre-school.

Since starting nursery, my daughter has thrived! The staff have been nurturing and supportive to our daughter and provided lovely activities and experiences for her. We have been really pleased with the sessions where a parent/grandparent can come in for a couple of hours, we’ve felt really included. She has recently moved to the next room for her age and the transition process was gradual with clear communication for us. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and we are so grateful for them and how they have made the transition to nursery so positive.

My daughter has been attending the setting since toddlers and is now in preschool (two and a half years, will be three years total) and it's been a consistently high standard. The standard of the workforce is the standout for me, with each room having excellent individuals at each level. The setting itself has such generous outdoor settings with each room having its own garden, a forest school, a barn and another field/play area. Would recommend to anyone without hesitation I love this nursery!

Great nursery - staff in the toddler room are very supportive and encouraging of the little ones. The manager at the nursery is fantastic and always on hand to support and answer any questions you may have. My little one has started to form friendships and comes home singing songs they’ve done that day - their forest school/green space area is huge too which is a big plus compared to other nurseries.

Footsteps Fradley Nursery and Pre-School is such a friendly, happy environment not only for my child but for the parents too. You will always see a friendly face within the setting. It’s so comforting to know my child is being looked after by such kind and caring individuals who genuinely love what they do. My child has developed in speech, language and most of all confidence. Which tells me he is happy and comfortable in his surroundings, he’s always happily running into nursery and engaging with the staff. This nursery setting and all of its staff are nothing but outstanding. My son has thrived from day one and all staff even outside of his class have taken time to get to know him - which shows because he is so happy to see them! I drop him off with no worries, and picking him up is lovely because the staff are happy to take time out to discuss their day. I can’t recommend it enough. It has been life changing for us as a family taking away so many worries and knowing my son is number 1 priority like he is at home!

My little boy absolutely loves the environment at Footsteps Fradley not just because of all the outdoor space available but also because of the variety of learning activities provided, without realising he’s learning. So much thought and preparation is put into every day to fill it with fun. All the key workers work exceptionally hard and seem to have an infinite amount of patience. My son has been attending this nursery for over 2 years and it is a wonderful place which he loves attending. After a couple of months of staffing issues (along with the whole childcare industry) and management changes (original management returning from maternity leave), the nursery has turned a corner and these issues seem to have now been resolved. The management are happy to listen to any issues or changes that may be suggested to help the care of the children, including having a parent forum in which parents can take part to listen to management and provide positive feedback and changes on the running of the nursery. The current staff genuinely care about the children and have different activities planned every day including forest school, sports activities and tiny ducks. Room leaders are approachable and take on board any issues/advice you give them and a lot of outdoor time is encouraged which is great.

We've only had positive experiences with the staff at Footsteps Fradley Nursery & Pre-School. They even had a breakfast morning in the car park one day which was very welcomed! Review of Footsteps Nursery Fradley

Overall our experience has been very positive. The nursery is in a lovely location with excellent facilities catering for both indoor and outdoor play and learning. The staff are caring and attentive to the children at all times. There have been some staffing shortages especially during winter when you expect increased absences. However this has been reported nationally as an issue in the nursery community post pandemic. There are some things which could be improved like having 2 apps for parents rather than 1 app which does everything as we have experienced in other nurseries. However any criticisms are minor annoyances. Overall I would highly recommend this nursery to others in the area.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Fradley

An extended period of poor communication, “first come first served” care provision, staff negativity and a lack of structured learning resulted in us removing our child from this nursery. A real shame considering the setting and location, but since Family First took over the Footsteps chain this nursery has been run into the ground. Over subscription of children, chronic understaffing (resulting in the admin assistant and cook having to provide care!) and endless logistical challenges (including forgetting to top up the gas!) are just some of the issues we faced in our time there. The lack of ability to enter our child’s setting, and lack of updates on his learning and development (2x EyLOG updates in 4 months), were also disappointing especially when you consider the day rate for this nursery is for a premium setting. I hope for the sake of the other children in the setting that the nursery can get back on track. Don’t let yourself be sold by appearances!

My sons have attended here since January 2022, and we're so impressed with the setting. Staff know children by name, are trained well and provide not just care but educational support for your children. They learn independent skills like hand washing too. Kids are fed a great balanced diet and have access to soccer tots, forest school and more. They work well to get kids into the community through projects and visits. My other son, who left in September 22, has SEN, and the nursery went above and beyond to support his needs as well as provide documentation and support for his onward move to school. I really couldn't fault them. A beautiful, modern setting that's well-maintained.

Since visiting various the nurseries at the start of 2022 I knew Footsteps Fradley was where I wanted my son to spend his days. He has settled in really well since he joined in August 2022 and the team have really helped his personality come out while with them. His key worker has been amazing, keeping us updated with his day to day achievements and looking after him when he has been poorly, which is every mums worst nightmare! He loves all the activities the team plan, especially the weekly music lessons that come in. According to his daily diary he loves the food too! Plus the communication is really good between management around any additional sessions needed, invoices etc.
