About Footsteps Nursery Lichfield Road

Footsteps Nursery Lichfield Road is an OFSTED GOOD (2025) nursery in Tamworth, based on Lichfield Road and spread across three main buildings. The nursery offers a cosy, home-from-home environment for children from birth to 5 years, combining welcoming rooms with generous outdoor space. Families can feel reassured by a focus on consistent, high-quality care, with staff working closely with parents to support each childs wellbeing and development.
Children are supported through a wide range of play-based learning opportunities that may include sensory exploration, small-world play, early literacy, creative arts and outdoor investigation. A key person works in partnership with each family, helping children settle, sharing regular updates and tailoring experiences to individual needs and interests.
Outdoor provision is a standout feature, with around half an acre of space, two large gardens and a bespoke forest school area with an outdoor classroom. Children may enjoy rope swings, slides, mud kitchens and climbing equipment, giving them room to build coordination, balance and confidence while engaging with nature. Our inclusive curriculum makes full use of these spaces to create rich learning experiences for all children.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Natasha Tivnan

Hello, I'm Natasha. I began my career in childcare in 2005. I've been a nursery manager since 2012 and joined Footsteps in July 2017.

Through my extensive experience working in early years, I have gained a wealth of knowledge, offering care and education to young children of all ages. I hold a Diploma in Childcare and Education.

I have always felt passionate about working with children, watching them grow, gaining their own identity and independence as they spend their early years with us.

My vision is to create a home from home experience to enable our children to feel safe and secure and have a fun-filled day, every day, while at our setting.

Our Curriculum

Our nursery works closely alongside Development Matters and our curriculum to ensure children have access to all opportunities. Children make good progress across the setting, and these are celebrated through observations, assessments and feedback from key workers.

Children are prepared for the next stage in their development, with rooms working closely together to ensure the curriculum flows throughout the nursery. This means children know what the expectations are daily, alongside a routine they can use throughout the day.

Really impressed with the nursery and the staff there. Seem to have been some really positive changes lately. Our son struggled with settling initially but they were so caring towards him and he now loves nursery. He regularly mentions staff names in a positive way so we know he's happy there. Recieve regular updates on the app so we know what he's eaten. Our son has a milk allergy and we have confidence that the staff know what he should and shouldn't be eating. Very happy!

We couldn't be happier with the choice we have made for our daughter sending her to Footsteps Lichfield Road. She started here November 2024 and we had looked round several nurseries prior to Lichfield Road and Chloe who showed us round was so knowledgeable, friendly and instantly put us at ease about sending our at the time six month old. She is now nearly 20 months and shes absolutely thriving. She can be a bit of a diva when entering in the morning but the staff fully understand what she is like and you can tell that each member of staff knows her really well. The activities she does are brilliant and there is clear communication on her next steps & what she achieves within the setting. The meals she is provided are fantastic, varied and balanced. Whenever I have had any queries management have always been great at responding too!

My child started last October when he was 7 months old. As a first time mum and leaving my son I was very anxious. All the staff made me feel at ease and answered any questions I had. They give thorough handovers about what he has took part in throughout the day and what he has eaten which is very reassuring. They give him so much love and care throughout the day and he really has come on so much since starting. I honestly can't thank them enough!

Great experience so far. My child has been with the nursery for 12 months and have been extremely happy with her time there so far. it's a difficult transition introducing your child into childcare however, this was made bearable by footsteps Lichfield Road. My daughter's speech has improved massively since she started nursery and her play skills are great.

Management, particularly the nursery manager and deputy manager, is severely lacking; they demonstrate a lack of professionalism and communication abilities. The nursery manager often hangs up on you, can be quite abrupt during discussions. If you raise a concern, the manager may respond by suspending your child or children, alleging that their accounts are in debt, and subsequently terminate their enrollment at the nursery. The nursery manager fails to conduct herself in a professional manner and does not take responsibility for the distress she causes during your child's time at the nursery. One of my children had their enrollment terminated, and my oldest child was nearly in the same situation. The nursery manager fabricates stories about you, portraying you as aggressive to others. If you challenge the nursery manager, be cautious, as it could lead to the termination of your child's placement. Nursery manager implies on how you should be a mother to your children.

Exceptional child care, my daughter comes home happy almost every Day. She's developing at quite a fast pace thanks to all the Staff. My Partner and I both feel comfortable with the setting and know she's safe and cared for. Parking can be frustrating at times, though this is only a few-minute delay and generally only happens at collection.

Our experience so far has been really positive. Lovely caring staff who communicate well with us to keep us informed about our child's day and progress. The nursery has a very homely feel to it with lots of extra sessions organised to include parents too. Food is always varied and our child eats well. The forest school element is a real bonus and it is really lovely that children are also taken out into the community for activities to build their confidence and experience in the outside world.

I am satisfied with this kindergarten because there are many and various interesting activities for our children and for the parents. I really like that they have a spacious garden where the children explore and learn about nature. The child loves going to kindergarten because he is warmly welcomed and feels safe. I believe the nursery is amazing with my child however we don't have a handover when picking our child up and we also do not get updates on the app anymore which is one thing that got my attention when applying for the nursery. I never know what my child has eaten or how much or if they have had a nap. Other then that the nursery is amazing with my child and has helped them so much with her speech and gentle hands and I can't fault them with the care they provide

My child enjoys attending this nursery so no complaints from him. Dinners are great, the long standing key workers are very engaging and really care for the children and there are a lot of fun activities that my son enjoys being part of. From a parenting perspective, I'd like to see more structure in pre school as the children are getting closer to starting school. First half of 2024 there definitely felt like there was a structure in place however the last half of the year, the structure appears to have fallen down and it feels a little chaotic in pre school where there are a lot of children and a revolving door of staff members. I'd like to feel more confident that my child is being given the right tools he'll need to start school.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Lichfield Road

My little boy has been at Footsteps since he was 7 months old (he is now 2.5 years old) and my youngest is due to start in September. I adore the nursery, the staff is so lovely towards my boys, he enjoys nursery and it has aided his development so much. They have taken him out on numerous excursions as well as providing invaluable advice regarding supporting behaviours, potty training and sleep, as well as advice regarding the childcare policies and hours available for children. They as also great at providing pictures/updates which are also lovely to read when you are at work. The nursery always responds quickly through the app and have also been able to attend a paediatric first aid course and nursery social organised through the nursery. Being a teacher myself I researched nurseries thoroughly and am almost hyper-vigilant about things such as safeguarding etc. Footsteps Lichfield Road have never put a foot wrong. I will happily have both of my boys there in September.

Our daughter has been at Footsteps Lichfield Road now for around 3 months and I am so impressed with the baby room. The team in the room are fantastic, hugely friendly and supportive. The staff member who is our daughter's key worker and the room senior is brilliant, we also deal a lot with another staff member, who is always so happy and upbeat. Our daughter also clearly loves them both. The best way I can describe the care they give is that I never worry or think twice about leaving my daughter with them. They care for her like she is their own, and I really feel like that is all I can ask. The food choices and feedback we get on activities are good and we feel like she has variety within her nursery days. They are supportive of her development too and are actively interested in the steps she takes outside of work. Whilst we would always like to see more pictures and observations of her, I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't highly recommend any parent send their baby here.

Our son has been attending Footsteps Lichfield Road Nursery & Pre-School since he was 12 months old and it truly feels like he's part of a little family. Every member of staff (whether they're working in his current classroom or not) always greets him warmly and knows his name. Our son chatters away to us about pre-school when he's at home and talks about the staff with the same enthusiasm and love with which he talks about the little friends he has made. He absolutely loves forest school and the responsibilities and skills they learn there and is always being kept super active with weekly Rugbytots (which he loves) and plenty of opportunities for outdoor play in the large gardens. There's been many a time when I've arrived to take him home at the end of the day and he simply doesn't want to leave because he's having too much fun! There's not a lot more that you want as a parent, to see your child happy, developing well and being genuinely cared for with true affection by those whose care you leave them in.

Our daughter joined this nursery in February 2023 after we moved into the area from another location. Her development and confidence have come on leaps and bounds since she joined Footsteps. She joined the Rising 3's room and is now in pre-school with her due to start primary school in September. Our daughter loves going to nursery and it really is a home from home for her and us! All the staff we have encountered are polite, and kind and have the children's best interests at heart. There has recently been some movement in the staff but what we like is that the staff regularly move between rooms so the children know all teachers by name and vice versa with the teachers and children. We have marked down slightly on food/nutrition as sometimes the meal offerings can be limited due to our child's allergy. Keep up the good work Footsteps Lichfield Road!

As a whole, this is a great nursery and preschool. The staff are friendly and helpful and my little one loves attending here. The only criticism is the learning record which I do not feel is updated regularly enough and in a format that can be printed in full when trying to purchase the book at the end of each year. Multiple observations are recorded in bulk periodically but this means half the information/photos are cut off the page when you order the learning journey book as it prints one entry per page. I have friends whose children are in different nurseries/preschools that get regular daily/weekly updates/photos about the child’s day/week so it’s a shame this doesn’t happen at Footsteps. That being said, my little one loves coming to Footsteps to see his friends and teachers and we do enjoy the activities that are planned for the children and for parents to attend such as Christmas shows, Mother’s Day concerts, stay and play, summer fete etc. I would therefore recommend this setting.

Our son is currently in the Rising 3s room and thoroughly enjoys it. The team in the room are so creative with activities, it’s great to see all the creations and updates of learning styles. We can’t imagine what it’s like to have to deal with a room of toddlers going through the “terrible 2s” and pushing boundaries all day but the team are always smiling at pick-up, even when we know our little boy has possibly been quite testing. We’ve really appreciated the support on naps and reducing them too. Great team in Rising 3s!

My son has been attending Footsteps Lichfield Road Nursery & Pre-School for quite a while now and so have experienced most rooms! All of the staff at the nursery are so friendly and welcoming. All rooms have bought his development on massively and he has enjoyed being a part of them. My son is currently in 'Rising 3's' and I am so happy with the care my son receives. The staff are all genuinely happy to see my son and are very welcoming each morning. They not only care for our children but us, as a family, as a whole. The support they have provided for not only my son but for me as well has been amazing! I couldn't have chosen a better nursery for my son. We are extremely pleased with the setting as a whole. (Including management and staff).

Staff are friendly and approachable and clearly care about the children in their care. There is a good range of activities available, and feedback in the form of daily diaries and verbal handovers is detailed and thorough. Our child has a strong bond with their key worker, but all the staff are familiar with them, including knowing them by name and greeting them in the mornings when passing. Our child has had a wonderful experience since starting, and we are incredibly grateful and appreciative of the work that all the staff do.

I have been very happy with the activities space and care provided for my daughter and would happily recommend the nursery to a family or friend. I have used childminding care previously and have found that though private nursery is more expensive, it is worth the extra cost for the level of care and stability.

I am very impressed with the standard of care provided at Footsteps. Staff are knowledgeable in child development and plan activities to aid child development. I am confident that my daughter is well cared for when she is at nursery. I really love receiving updates via the app; it helps being separated from my baby a lot easier if I can see that she is enjoying her time at nursery. I find the staff very nurturing towards my daughter, and they are attentive to her needs.

The key workers are excellent. The nursery is looking tired in places. Emails sent to management with no response back which is unacceptable. The policy of requiring the child to be at home for loose nappies is ridiculous especially when we know it is teething and doctors have confirmed this. Absence cost us £400 alone this month.

The staff within the room are friendly, approachable and nothing is ever too much to ask. Our baby settled in really well thanks to the help of her key worker. The first few sessions when we left her, she would get upset but the staff reassured us and gave us confidence she was in the best hands. If we were worried we could phone at any time. The room leader made us feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Any requests or changes eg dietary requirements have been made when asked. Our babies development has really come on since nursery and they have really helped get her into a good routine which suits our lifestyle and they give good guidance if we have looked for it. From the nursery workers to our key worker and the room leader they are very good at their jobs and are a credit to Footsteps Lichfield Road Nursery & Pre-School.

My daughter has been attending Footsteps Lichfield Road Nursery & Pre-School since 18 months old. She has moved around, in 4 different rooms and currently goes to pre-school. Staff is friendly and overall our experience with them has been pretty good. The facilities, especially the gardens and forest school, help the children to explore outside and enjoy their time outdoors. They have plenty of things to do and never appear bored. Food is amazing and my daughter has always enjoyed her meals over there. In general, we are very pleased with Footsteps nursery.
