Our commitments

Our five commitments set the standard for care and learning across all our nurseries. Within these, each setting creates its own unique curriculum, shaped by their children, team, and local community.

What are our commitments?

Our commitments are the heart of our nurseries - these are the values that guide our decisions and experiences we create for children. They shape warm, nurturing environments where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to grow into confident, capable individuals.

These commitments provide a shared foundation across all our nurseries, while allowing each setting’s curriculum to flourish in its own unique way. Our commitments are carefully designed, holistic, and rooted in both research and decades of hands-on experience. They reflect what truly matters in early childhood.

Above all, they represent our promise to families: that every child will be supported, challenged, and celebrated, so they can thrive today and build the foundations for a bright, successful future.

Our commitments overview

Our approach to early years education is guided by five commitments:

  • Critical and Creative Thinkers

  • Sense of Belonging

  • Explorers of Our World

  • Confident Communicators

  • Happy and Healthy

What do our commitments really mean?

Critical and creative thinkers

We want children to be naturally inquisitive about themselves, others, and the world around them, and confident in testing their ideas. Developing creative and critical thinking is essential for life and forms the foundation for effective problem-solving and decision-making. We provide a safe, supportive environment where children can generate their own ideas and imagine new possibilities. Through creativity, exploration and hands-on experiences, they test their thinking and deepen their understanding

Sense of belonging

We want every child to feel a strong sense of belonging, supporting their self-worth, safety, and ability to form positive relationships. Belonging is an innate human need and is essential for building secure, trusting connections. We foster this by creating caring, consistent adult relationships that help children feel safe, valued, and confident in forming future relationships. Through the ‘triangle of trust’ between children, families, and key adults, we provide a secure foundation that enables children to understand their emotions, find their place in society, and navigate their social world with confidence.

Explorers of our world

We support children to develop a strong, meaningful connection to the natural world through regular, enriching outdoor experiences. Children are encouraged to explore independently, guided by their own interests, using natural resources and first-hand experiences. Time outdoors offers opportunities for physical development, confidence, resilience, and appropriately managed risk-taking, while allowing children to experience and respond to the changing qualities of the environment - from weather and light to sound and space.

Confident communicators

We want children to communicate their thoughts, feelings, likes, dislikes, needs, passions, and interests in ways that are meaningful and appropriate for them. We strive for all children to become confident communicators, recognising and celebrating that this will look different for every child. We support this by encouraging expression through both verbal and non-verbal communication, role-modelling positive language, and creating rich, supportive environments that are carefully tuned to each child’s individual needs.

Happy and healthy

We want children to be happy, content, and naturally motivated to get involved and explore. We encourage plenty of physical activity, recognising its vital role in supporting both physical and mental health. Our aim is for every child to feel happy and healthy while they are with us, and for our nurseries to be fun, engaging, and exciting places to be. We know that children’s physical and emotional wellbeing shapes both their experiences today and their happiness in the future. To support this, we provide healthy meals and snacks and ensure children have ample opportunities for regular physical exercise.
