Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Samantha Randall

Hello, I'm Samantha. I've been a nursery manager since 1998 and joined Footsteps in August 2002. I've been the nursery manager at Dosthill from when we first opened our doors to families.

I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and have also completed my Level 4 in Management. I have built a strong bond with my setting, my team, the local community and the families that use our services. I take great pride in being part of each child's growth and development as they progress and achieve during their time with us.

Here at Dosthill, we ensure every child's individual needs are met and support their growth with the tools they need to succeed. Our nursery offers a comforting home from home environment, and our fantastic team provide a varied range of rich and stimulating activities based on the children's keen interests.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is what we want children to learn whilst they are with us. It is ambitious and sequenced to help children build on their learning over time, while remaining flexible and following their interests.

Our core belief is that by the time children leave us to go to school, we want them to be confident communicators, resilient resolvers and independent investigators. We achieve this through organising our environments indoors and outdoors for high quality play opportunities, and through the teaching and practice of our team.

Practitioners help children learn through a mix of approaches, which may include learning through play, modelling behaviour, observing each other's practice, and guided learning.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Dosthill

Dosthill have been brilliant with my little one, he struggled to leave us initially and being in 5 days a week is a lot for him, but the staff in baby room have been brilliant with him. He now gets excited to go, he gets his own shoes on in the mornings and always gives the staff big cuddles big cuddles when coming and leaving the nursery. They've been brilliant with monitoring his allergies and always keep us informed (where necessary) about important things! They have so many activities, never worry about my little one in their care

Review of Footsteps Nursery Dosthill

Babies room and management have been fabulous helping my baby settle and me feel at ease leaving my baby in their care after my return to work. My baby started very early and has developed well. The variety of activity's and socialization keep him engaged and coming home completely content after full days. The nursery keep us informed with a daily diary, regular observations/ updates and are completely transparent about any bumps or sniffles. The staff really get to know the babies and provide a personal as well as professional approach to their childcare. Prices are competitive and the quality of facilities, range of activities and level of care exceeds expectations.

Footsteps Dosthill is such a great nursery! From day one they have been supportive, kind and made us parents feel happy knowing our child is going somewhere not only do they love but also enjoy! The curriculum is amazing, our son is always coming home with arts, crafts and new words he's learnt! He's become such a confident boy from nursery and loves spending time there! The staff are so lovely always with smiles on their faces and cannot do more for you!

My daughter has been going to Dosthill Footsteps since she was 8 months old. It's a wonderful nursery and all staff make your child feel at home and they look after them so well. Obviously been a first time parent it was scary for me putting her into nursery so young but I had to go back to work they have always made me feel so comfortable and my daughter loves going there. Our son attends Dosthill Footsteps and he loves it. We've noticed his development just especially since he's gone up to the toddler room. The staff encourage his to try new things and when he's upset on the odd occasion at drop off they will comfort him without making a big deal. They are also great with doing observation so that we can keep up with what he's doing.

Brilliant nursery both my children have been here. My son currently attending. They are fantastic with dietary requirements and I'm at complete ease knowing my child is in safe hands. The app keeps you up to date with what the children eat, sleep times and nappy changes which is good. I would recommend this nursery over and over again.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Dosthill

My daughter has attended Footsteps Dosthill since 2023 and I cannot recommend it enough. Each room she has been in she has flourished she come out of her shell and is a very confident little girl who certainly keeps the staff busy. As she prepares for pre school the staff have supported her in toilet training and as a result at 2 years old is completely dry during the day she has given up her dummy and transitioned into a bed at home. All of this would not be possible without the staffs encouragement and support. They feed her imagination and encourage her daily to express her emotions and try new things cannot thank them enough. We love it so much she will be staying at Footsteps Dosthill until she starts school in 2026 we will be sad when her journey there is over.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Dosthill

We put our little boy in Footsteps Nursery and have been nothing but elated with the service provided. We feel that the staff really love working with children and our boy settled in beautifully. They keep us well updated through the app from his activities and dinners, to any milestones hit. He can be a fussy eater but the meals they serve sound healthy and he enjoys them. We always feel warmly welcome in the nursery and the staff explain everything clearly and in a friendly manner. We also feel that the cost is well justified for the great service and we wouldn't want our boy to go anywhere else.

My daughter has been attending footsteps from 5 months old starting in the babies room and is now in preschool almost 3 years later. She has always enjoyed going and the staff in every room have been fantastic. There is a welcoming atmosphere at every drop off and pick up and I am confident when dropping off my daughter that not only is she going to have a great day but she will also be well looked after and cared for. 100% would recommend this nursery to anybody.

The nursery has been incredible in terms of providing, love, nurture and care to my son. Every member of staff genuinely cares for his well-being. I appreciate the way they support parents' involvement through stay and plays, book bags etc. The preschool room has really supported my son in becoming school-ready and more independent. The staff go above and beyond to make every single nursery day exciting and meaningful. Forest School is also exceptional and my son adores every Monday when he gets to do this.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Dosthill

My daughter has been going to Footsteps since January and how much she has developed in these past 6 months has been amazing to see. The staff in the baby room are incredible, they know what she likes to play with and do if she's upset on drop off (which is very rare these days she happily walks in and says bye-bye without a glance back which shows credit to the girls how comfortable and happy she is around them). The variety of food she has is brilliant, we always joke she eats better than we do, and her speech has come on so much. Our favourite thing is kind hands, it is the cutest thing to see! We are so happy we chose footsteps and have already recommended you to our friends who have confirmed a place for there like one.

My daughter has been with Dosthill Nursery since October 2023, starting in the baby room and having recently moved to toddlers. She has enjoyed being there and as a mom, I feel extremely comforted to see how well she is taken care of. The staff are lovely - I can't say enough good things about all of them. The building is great for the kids - they have a very clean and bright indoor and outdoor space. The meals are exciting and smell delicious when you walk through the doors. I also appreciate the daily updates and photos and enjoy seeing my daughter developing. Thank you.

My child started nursery in January 2024 and went into the baby room. She has settled in so well in the short time she has been in and this is thanks to 3 members of staff in particular. The few issues we have had, have been sorted quickly and efficiently. Overall, this nursery is absolutely amazing and we are so glad our child will be here until she leaves for school.

My little girl has been attending Footsteps Dosthill for just over a year now and I've been very happy with our experience at the nursery. She is always happy to go to nursery which says a lot about the care they provide. I especially like that they have a garden and forest school and they spend a lot of time in these areas. My little girl is a bit more quiet and the staff has always supported and encouraged her and built her confidence loads over the year. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this nursery to parents.

My daughter has just finished her time in the Toddler room and has just moved up to Early Twos. She absolutely loved her time in toddlers. We were nervous about her transition as she had loved the baby room so much, but the staff made sure she was happy and settled quickly. She'd come home telling us about her friends and what she'd been up to when she was there. Not only did she love going to nursery but she's developed lots too - she knows all the nursery rhymes and confidently sings them to anyone who will listen, her counting is really coming along and she knows the alphabet too.

My daughter is very happy at Footsteps, I honestly trust the staff with the most precious thing we have. She's learning so quickly so quickly, with brilliant advice. When we need it to help her grow and learn at home. She's fed well, nourished well and it seems that she is shown affection and discipline when needed. I really couldn't ask for more from a nursery. My little one is in the room after babies (22 months).

Our little boy has been at the nursery for nearly a year now and is really settled there. He enjoys going and gets on really well with the ladies who look after him. He is always happy at the end of the day, and you can tell he has had fun. The staff are very friendly, and it is clear they enjoy their jobs and care about the development of the children they look after. The staff are very supportive, helpful and caring. We always get good updates at the end of the day about how our little boy has been, the activities they have done and how he has eaten at meal times. The app is also great as we get updates during the day along with details and photos of activities and how they relate to our child’s development. The staff do a wide variety of activities with the children, and this is also supported by activities we can do at home. We are very happy we chose Footsteps Dosthill for our little boy. We look forward to his continued journey with the team. We highly recommend the nursery.

My son has been with Footsteps Dosthill Nursery for nearly 16 months now. I am very pleased by the care he receives at the nursery. He enjoys his time there thoroughly. The staff are very nice and friendly, they provide a caring environment and they pour in effort to work with the individual needs of a child and to help them achieve their milestones. They have a mix of activities planned throughout the day which is really engaging for the children. My son's speech has improved so much over the past couple of weeks with the help of his teachers and his confidence has increased so much. I am very reassured that the nursery takes all precautions to take care of dietary requirements for my child. I feel really comfortable and happy leaving my child at the nursery. Keep up the good work, would highly recommend this nursery.

My daughter is coming to the end of her Footsteps Dosthill Nursery and Pre-School experience and I am heartbroken about it. She has absolutely loved her time with all the team from baby room all the way through to preschool. The girls provide outstanding care and they provide her with the best experiences. She has become a confident and independent little girl who is ready to take on her new chapter at school and that is thanks to the wonderful team at Footsteps Dosthill Nursery and Pre-School. My son started at Footsteps in Dosthill at 7 months old and not even two weeks in, I could see so much developmental. The staff knows and understands children’s development and how to support in helping children to hit those milestones. Staff are friendly and patient and encourage parents to openly communicate which helps build positive relationships. Daily communication about my child’s day is something I look forward to and they really take the time to go through his day, ensuring they encourage a range of skills to be explored through different activities. Amazing staff with a big heart and caring mindset. It’s wonderful seeing my daughter get excited about going to nursery here. The teachers really make an effort to engage the kids and develop them in a very individualised way. The management are really committed to providing a safe, fun, and loving environment and we’re very thankful to staff for all their hard work. My daughter has come on leaps and bounds since moving into their room. Her speech is amazing and her confidence has grown so much. Everyone is very welcoming and made our daughter feel very at ease right away when she joined the nursery. The room workers always keep us up to date on our daughter's progress and give details of areas of improvement so we know what to practice at home. Our daughter's eating habits, general speech and attention have all drastically improved whilst she has been attending Footsteps. She is always keen to go to the nursery and really likes all of the room workers who are friendly and patient.
