About The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School

The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School is an OFSTED GOOD (2025) nursery in Kentish Town, based at St Benet’s Church Hall on Lupton Street. Our small nursery offers care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years in a quaint, spacious and bright church hall, with strong safeguarding and nurturing care that helps every child feel secure while they explore this “slice of the country within the city.”
Our characterful church space is arranged as a true home-from-home, filled with natural materials and open-ended resources that invite children to be curious, hands-on and deeply involved in their play. Our close-knit team focuses on interpersonal skills and rich face-to-face interactions, building language, confidence and empathy without relying on screens or IT.
Our picturesque gardens are a standout feature, with a larger garden full of hidden gems such as an enclosed mud kitchen, firepit area and wooden house at the top of the climbing frame, plus a smaller garden with its own pond and growing patches. Children may help collect water from butts, tend vegetable and fruit beds, watch the life cycle in the pond or visit the on-site chickens, building a powerful connection to the green ecosystem around them.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Lisa Mayamine

Hello, I'm Lisa. I joined The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School in March 2020 and have been a nursery manager for over 22 years. My family are from Tuscany in the north of Italy and Bavaria in the south of Germany, and I love to travel.

I am a qualified teacher and hold a BA Hons Degree with Qualified Teacher Status but have always specialised in early years. I ran my previous nursery for 20 years before joining here.

The nursery is a very bright, busy and happy place with staff who have been here for many years. The atmosphere and staff team are second to none. Our ethos will always be that our number one priority is to meet the individual needs of every child and keep them safe, stimulated, and to provide them with environments that nurture them to develop and thrive.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum focuses on the children and the area that they live. We prioritise children's mental wellbeing, supporting them from birth to five to build secure attachments, co-regulate and self-regulate.

We focus on cultural awareness, embedding respect for the diversity around them, and on independence in all areas, including self-care, food choices and activities. We strive to empower children to be who they want to be and support them to be confident in speaking out and making choices. The curriculum begins when the child does, and our team will guide and support children throughout their journey at the nursery.

Our son has been so happy at the Kentish Town Day Nursery. All of the staff are so welcoming, caring and good fun. The curriculum is broad and ambitious: our son loves French and is very proud of his artwork. The food is exceptional, with the staff taking great care to support babies in their weaning journey. The premises are really characterful and our son loves spending so much time in the lovely garden.

My son recently started at Little Garden The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School, and we couldn't be happier! We already had wonderful experiences with this nursery when my daughter attended in 2023 and 2024, just before starting primary school. Words cannot fully express how delighted we are with this nursery. The staff is incredibly caring, well-prepared, and approachable. I have never had any doubts that they always do their best for my children. The management team is exceptionally friendly and always ready to help and support you, especially during the challenging process of settling your child into the nursery. From the moment I first walked into this nursery, the vibes have always been perfect. The staff's smiles are constant, the atmosphere is joyful, and everyone addresses you with the utmost politeness. We couldn't be more pleased with Little Garden The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone!

Review of The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School

Our son has been attending Little Garden The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School for more than 12 months now. We did significant research into nurseries in our local area and we are delighted with the choice that we made. There is consistency of staff, he has had the same key people all year, and the wider team has only experienced modest changes. The staff are friendly, welcoming, kind, organised and calm. There is a good balance of structure and free play. The thought and creativity that goes into the daily activities (which seemingly change every day) are extraordinary. He is clearly learning things as he comes out with things that we haven't taught him e.g. left and right. He sleeps and eats well there. In 12 months, he has only had to have a handful of days off when he was very unwell. There are regular updates, photos, and reports and the team is always happy to meet, discuss and answer questions, etc. The room is light, bright and always well-organised despite the stakeholders they manage!

We have 2 daughters at Little Garden Kentish Town. Our oldest is in preschool and the youngest just started in the baby room. The staff are absolutely amazing and care very much about each individual child. The settling in with our oldest was tricky at the time and they handled things very well, she now loves going to school each day and even talks about the teachers on the weekends! Management has always been very helpful and professional with our concerns or requests. We know that both girls are safe and looked after. We couldn't be happier with the choice we made and can highly recommend this nursery.

We have been with Kentish Town Little Garden for the past 3 years (2 children). The main reason we love it is the caring staff. You can be comforted knowing they genuinely care for your child. As it would have been anywhere, it took a while for our babies to settle, but eventually, they were so keen and excited to go every day. We initially had hesitation as there are not as many updates communicated during the day - but rest assured this is because they are spending their time engaging with the children rather than on a tablet electrical device! If we needed more than the download at the end of the day, we could ring the nursery and talk to any member of staff about our child, at any time. We trust them wholeheartedly and have had two happy kids.

My daughter started in the Baby room nursery in April 2023 and she settled very well. She loves her friends, teachers and the management team. Everyone is so loving and caring with her and I couldn’t be happier. As a first-time father, I am very happy to see her development and how she feels at home here in the nursery. I would rate this nursery 100 stars. It's an amazing place with loving staff, great administration, a warm and kind environment and healthy and tasty freshly-cooked meals! We've been to all three rooms and can't thank the staff enough. When I pick up my boys, they look so smiley, occupied and busy with their fun activities. It's a happy place for the kids, and it gives peace of mind to parents. I love everything about this nursery: their emails, communication, open days for parents throughout the year, menus, graduation days, hygiene, kid's activities and lots of love that kids get there. It's such a relief when kids are happy to go to the nursery every morning!

Our 7 month old daugher has been at the nursery for a couple of months now. I cannot recommend the nursery enough, the team are amazing with her. We love bringing her to the nursery knowing she is recieving wonderful care. The best part for me is when our daughter goes into nursery she smiles and puts her arms out to the staff collecting her. The parent app is amazing and the direct communication from the nursery is spot on.

We cannot recommend Little Garden Kentish Town more! Our son has been there for almost 2 years now and is treated like a family member. The care and kindness shown to him by this key worker, the other practitioners/teachers and the management are exemplary. Each morning is greeted with a smile and there is always such an interest taken in our home life as well. We have a new daughter who will be starting there in January 2024 and we feel so lucky that she will be able to experience the same environment and the same support as our son. A special mention to the Practice Manager, she has such a busy and important job yet always replies to emails and exhibits great empathy and care with her responses and the service she and the nursery provide. We feel so fortunate to have found Little Garden Kentish Town.

We've had our daughter at Little Garden Nursery for 2 years now (started at 10 months old) and I couldn't rate this nursery highly enough. Our daughter has been able to develop and establish strong relationships with all the staff and kids in her class. The staff really care for each child and it's been amazing to see her treated like family. She's absolutely flourished under their care and grown to be quite independent. The range of activities is always changing and there's no shortage of new things she comes home telling us about. The communication between management and parents is outstanding, especially during the pandemic. We've also been able to get to know the staff in each of her rooms as she's progressed and have always felt in-the-loop with how she's getting on. From the moment we drop her off, to the end of the day the entire team seems to have the highest energy levels which the children really feed off of. If there was a way to rate this better than 5 stars I would!

We have had two kids now attend Little Garden Nursery and I really cannot recommend it highly enough. I’ll talk about our youngest child as that’s more recent. He’s been in the baby room for over 6 months and the smiles on both his face and his key worker’s every morning say it all. He’s not just looked after, he’s loved and really cared for. He does a range of different activities that I would never do at home with him and it has really aided his development. It’s not been easy for the nursery to negotiate the many different covid scenarios but they’ve done it very respectfully and carefully. Whenever we have any problems or concerns with our son, the nursery addresses them straight away. I recently had to go away at the very last minute for work and the nursery couldn’t have been more helpful, fitting him in for extra days at extremely late notice. No childcare in London is cheap but I don’t mind paying the money to the manager and team because of the fabulous service they provide.

We love this place. Our son joined this March in Toddler room later than we'd intended due to Covid, which then collided with the birth of our second son ... but despite our timing being less than perfect, the staff here were brilliant at quickly getting the measure of him and devoting their love and attention to settle him in. We felt really well supported by his keyworker from the beginning and he's now loving Preschool and I get the sense that he sees the staff as his friends and allies! His confidence has grown tenfold since being here and it is so so nice to see, so we feel very grateful to the manager and her brilliant team and we are looking forward to sending our second little person too.

Fabulous nursery - our daughter has been here since she was 9 months (now 14 months) and she has the most wonderful time. My husband and I both work full time and were anxious about her spending five days at nursery but it couldn’t be better; the staff adore her and keep her so busy, and she has grown so much in confidence and independence since joining. The babies spend lots of time outside in the garden, have heaps of activities to enjoy - such as yoga and Spanish music lessons, and the room even has a wooden slide/climbing apparatus and ball pit! We receive a daily report of her nap times/meals/nappies and activities which is very helpful and reassuring. Thank you team Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-school!

I had two daughters in this nursery and one has just gone to primary school. The preschool was very good at making sure that my daughter was prepared and ready for her new adventure and cannot thank them enough. My youngest is in the toddler room and she has come out of her shell so much since being there. The staff in the room are amazing with her and she literally runs into the room every morning. I could not recommend this nursery more as it is so lovely and the staff are amazing.

A great place for my child to improve her social skills. The staff are great at making things easy to learn, whilst keeping it fun and creative which helps to keep her engaged. I was worried as my daughter came from another nursery but the staff were so welcoming that she ran in on her first day without saying bye and cried when she had to leave. Her key person in Toddlers was amazing and my daughter talks about her all the time. She has now been in preschool for 1 week so it's hard to comment but she is definitely still very happy and I would unreservedly recommend the nursery.

Our son started to go to Kentish Town Day Nursery when he was 8 months and loved it so much. We are moving out of London so cannot keep him at this nursery but are very sad to leave. The staff is incredibly kind and caring and our son loved going there from the beginning. He was always so excited to see his key carer in the morning and will miss her a lot. He learned a lot from the other children and the activities offered by the nursery and seemed to have great fun there. I would definitely recommend this nursery and wish we could have the same where we go now! The management team is also amazing; the Nursery Manager is really good at communicating with parents, very involved with the children, and definitely passionate about what she does. Our little boy started nursery with about a week's notice (we were very lucky with our timing to avoid a waitlist I think!) as I had a last-minute job offer in December last year; he would have been about 15 months. He settled into the baby room really quickly having been very much a child of isolation over lockdown - it was all very new and his key workers were so kind and patient settling him into his new environment. He now waits by the door in the morning as he's so excited to get down to see his friends and the staff, he squeals with delight as we walk out the front door - it really is so reassuring. And really, what more do you need than that as a parent to know that he is comfortable and happy and clearly having much more fun at nursery than home! We're so pleased with Little Garden and everyone that looks after our little man - thank you.

My son is 33 months. Choosing a good, trustworthy nursery is one of the challenges for parents because it’s the first step outside of the family but this nursery is one of my best choices. Whenever my son goes to the nursery, he is so happy and tells me that ‘I love nursery’. Staff are so attentive, friendly and welcoming. Also, updates on what’s going on in the nursery are regular and clear communications. I’m so glad above that and appreciate their hardworking, especially in this pandemic. I highly recommend this nursery.

Our son started at Little Garden Kentish Town in Spring 2020. We are keyworkers and they rescued us from having no childcare at all! Despite the difficult times, our son has thrived there. He loves going to nursery so much; we have to be careful not to mention it too soon in the mornings! We get regular updates from the nursery on his progress, including photos of the fun and messy play he gets up to. The manager has always been extremely responsive and approachable, and the staff are all fantastic. He recently moved from baby to toddler room, and we continue to be very satisfied with the wonderful care he receives.

My daughter thrived in the preschool, and her confidence grew immensely during her time at the setting. The staff were phenomenal and always made sure they met her needs. She is full of energy, and they knew how to ensure that she could develop and grow whilst keeping her active, stimulated and interested. We have two children who attend the nursery; the youngest having been in the baby room, then toddlers room where the oldest is in the pre-school room. We are very satisfied with the nursery. The staff are amazing, and our kids are very happy to go to the nursery every morning and have developed close ties with their key person. Since the pandemic has started, they have put in place very strict rules in order to avoid/limit the spread of the virus, and we feel very confident when we drop the children at the nursery every day.

We started at Kentish Town Day nursery in October 2020 for my 18 month old daughter and have had a fabulous experience. My daughter was at a different nursery over the summer and she never quite settled. It was exactly the opposite here. She took to the staff and care very well and is happy and smiling at drop-offs and pickups. I have found the staff and management great at communication and just very personalised and caring. They make a real effort with activities for the children and have also made an effort to get to know us as the parents. Would 100% recommend if you are considering for your child.

This nursery school is absolutely amazing! I was terrified of leaving my 14-month-old daughter the first week! She is now 18 months. I sat outside and cried as was so worried! Within a week to two, my daughter was kicking her legs with excitement as we reached the nursery school door every day. She has breakfast and lunch there and the staff are super kind and caring. My daughter is so happy and the management go above and beyond expectations really. It’s my first child and the staff have given me wonderful advice on training with my daughter from stopping breastfeeding to sleeping in her own bed and good ways to teach her learning opportunities. I would be lost without their support and care.

Our daughter started in the baby room a few months ago and we couldn’t be happier. Every member of the staff is incredibly kind, caring, and fun - she clearly loves them all and comes home with a huge smile every day! In these special times, everyone is doing an amazing job at creating a normal space for our babies to enjoy and are nurturing a sense of community with warm and friendly memos and communications as well as nice events for the children. Finally, the food cooked at the nursery is great and very diverse. Getting your baby started at nursery is never easy and is an emotional step so I am glad to have chosen this lovely place.

I have 2 children currently at the nursery and am very happy with the care they are receiving. They are genuinely happy to be at nursery and have made such great progress. The staff are great and really take care of the children. Kentish Town is an excellent nursery and preschool. Our daughter has been there since the age of 1.5 and has always been smiling and happy to go there every day. The children's security and wellbeing and development is taken very seriously by a loving and dedicated staff. The food is also excellent which was important for us. Despite our daughter's mother tongue is French (we only speak French at home) she is learning English at nursery and has a very good level. She made a lot of friends and can't wait for the "graduation party". The preschool organised every year for those who go to reception. For sure we will miss this incredible nursery and preschool (and the team!) when she will go to school next year.

Review of The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School

Our two daughters attended Little Gardens from Feb 2019 - May 2020. Our first six months there were excellent; well above expectations. The staff working with the kids were outstanding. Our kids loved going to nursery, they learned a lot, and we felt confident that they were in good hands. The nursery was acquired by a private equity investor in Jul 2019 and a new leadership team was put in place. During the nine months that followed, the service quality notably deteriorated, transparency and communication disappeared, and the rate of staff turnover increased to an alarming level (such that we had serious concerns regarding how staff were treated). The overall feel of the nursery shifted from a loving community to a cold factory. Our efforts (along with 30 other families at the nursery) to engage upper management in real dialogue were not successful. We ultimately left because we felt we could not trust management and we were concerned about the changing culture and feel of the nursery.

Review of The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School

We highly recommend Little Garden Nursery (Kentish Town Day Nursery) where our son spent 2 years! The staff are amazing, the place is really nice and they are doing lots of activities like Spanish Class, Yoga, visiting Farms, library. So happy that our son has grown up in this environment! Thanks again to the whole team!

Review of The Kentish Town Day Nursery & Pre-School

Kentish Town day nursery and pre-school has been a brilliant experience for our child just as it was for his older brother. Here are some reasons why we think this nursery is fantastic (not exhaustive!): - the staff is WONDERFUL: careful, patient, warm, professional, they guide children safely on the path to autonomy. - the food is delicious, fresh and healthy meals are cooked daily. - the children learn new abilities and open their minds to the world through various lessons, activities, experiments and regular outside trips. - there are parties on special occasions (Christmas, Diwali, Chinese New Year...) and even a graduation party for children leaving the nursery for school. They never miss any birthday. - we have regular feedback and meetings with our child's key worker. - our son is hugely happy there, he has got friends and loves the staff. We have mixed feelings as our child is going to school this September, he is really well-prepared for it but we will miss everyone at the nursery.
