About Buckden Day Nursery
Buckden Day Nursery is an OFSTED OUTSTANDING (2025) nursery in Buckden, offering a nurturing, high-quality setting where children from 6 weeks to 5 years are supported to feel safe, confident and ready to explore. Our approach is rooted in creating an environment that feels like an extension of home, with warm relationships and calm routines that help children thrive.
Learning is shaped through purposeful play and the Early Years Foundation Stage, with experiences planned around children’s interests and next steps. The nursery is working towards the Curiosity Approach, supporting inviting spaces and thoughtful opportunities for children to lead their own learning.
Outdoor learning is a defining strength, with a natural garden space that offers varied terrain and opportunities for physical development and exploration. Children can also benefit from nature-led experiences that may include seasonal projects, observing changes over time and caring for living things, helping build curiosity and resilience.
Our team draws inspiration from Forest School practice to offer gentle challenge and rich outdoor experiences, while keeping wellbeing at the heart of the day. Families are supported through open communication and a consistent approach that builds trust.

Meet Our Nursery Manager
Keeley Lockey
Hello, I'm Keeley, the manager at Buckden Day Nursery. I joined the team in November 2004 as a nursery apprentice and worked my way through my early years qualifications and degree here, earning my Early Years Teacher status (Level 6). In 2012, I became the manager.
Supporting both the children and the practitioners is what I enjoy most. Having started here as an apprentice myself, I understand the journey our team members are on, and I take real pride in helping them develop their skills and confidence.
Being at the nursery for over two decades means I've seen countless children grow from their first steps through our door to confident learners ready for school. That continuity matters to me, and I think it matters to families too. They know their child is in the hands of someone who genuinely cares about this place and everyone in it.

Our Curriculum
We plan in the moment, creating next steps which focus on children's interests and natural curiosities. Our practitioners understand that the best learning happens when children are motivated and engaged, so we use sustained shared thinking to develop ideas and build concepts together.
Our environment is designed to feel like an extension of home - rich, varied and carefully resourced to support all areas of learning. We place a strong emphasis on the environment as the third teacher, and our goal is for children to grow as independent, confident learners who feel safe, happy and able to share their views.
