About Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School

Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School is an OFSTED GOOD (2023) nursery in Ruislip, on Myrtle Avenue. Our nursery offers an exceptional Montessori environment integrated with Early Years Foundation Stage for children aged 3 months to 5 years, with strong safeguarding and nurturing care that helps every child feel secure and independent. We value parent partnerships and professional collaboration for personalised growth.
Our hybrid pedagogy blends Montessori with Forest School nature learning, creating a safe second home. Small groups optimise relationships and routines, nurturing competent, emotionally literate learners.
Our dedicated Forest School garden offers exciting resources for development. Babies explore sensory areas, toddlers enjoy reading corners and music, while pre-schoolers engage in PE with Super Star Sport, ICT through Click IT, and Tiny Mites music sessions. Our on-site kitchen brings excitement as children cook with fresh ingredients alongside nutritious meals.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Cathey Peart

Hi, I'm Cathey. I joined Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School in 2022 and have worked with children and families for the last 20 years in a variety of roles in both the private and public sector. These have included intensive family support, running parenting courses, leading a nursery school with complex needs placements, and most recently as a nursery manager.

People are my passion. I am fascinated by how we all construct meaning from our experiences and particularly how we use our early education environment to support children to make excellent progress in their learning and development.

Effective partnerships with parents are critical to a shared understanding of the children. I love nothing more than a conversation about what everyone has been doing. I hold a Master of Arts in Integrated Working with Children and Families in the Early Years and NVQ3 in Children's Learning, Care and Development.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is child-centred, holistic and responsive, rooted in Montessori values while remaining flexible, play-based and enriched by Forest School principles. It is organised around five interconnected areas:

(1) Self: Children build independence, perseverance and confidence, and express their thoughts and feelings as capable communicators.
(2) Natural World: Children explore nature through outdoor play, gardening and Forest School experiences, learning to respect living things and take appropriate risks.
(3) Wellbeing: We support physical and emotional health through sensory experiences, movement, mindfulness and emotional regulation.
(4) Family and Community: Children develop a sense of belonging through relationships, shared experiences and learning about diversity and respect.
(5) Knowledge and Understanding: Children think critically, explore new ideas, solve problems and make decisions through play-based learning.
Our aim is for children to leave Rosewood as confident, curious learners who feel secure in who they are and ready for their next stage of learning.

Review of Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School

We decided to send our daughter to Rosewood when she turned 12 months - she just graduated (still can't believe an actual graduation party was held - which was awesome!) age 3 and a half and is now attending nursery school - and I feel a big part of this smooth transition was thanks to the staff at Rosewood Montessori. The staff were brilliant - accommodative to our needs, always on hand to have a chat about anything. They were helpful in terms of helping with the transition from baby to toddler. We made the transition to potty training without any big hurdles and all the way through; they were just there for us. We will miss you all and would make the decision to join again if given a choice without hesitation. Thank you to Cathey, and all the staff once again!

Review of Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School

I have 2 children who have been at Rosewood for 15 months now and we have been very happy with their development and the care given by the whole team. We have been involved in a serious issue at the nursery which has been dealt with very well by the staff in particular the manager who has been very approachable and genuine in attending to our needs as parents and making us feel comfortable enough to trust the nursery to care for our children. They are very happy there and always tell us gleefully about what they have learned, new songs and activities, and interact very well with the other children. The manager truly is a credit to this nursery and you can tell that she genuinely loves helping and watching children thrive.

My Son started when he was 11 months old. He took a while to settle in and the team was so adaptable and flexible with this settling-in period. It was all about how my Son would settle in and not another number/money-making child. We were so grateful to the manager and the team. Since then he has had such a fun time at nursery. The food is great. The staff keep you updated. The activities are engaging. My Son talks about his day and misses nursery too. I would whole heartedly recommend Rosewood Montessori.

Review of Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School

My son started going to Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School when he was 10 months old. It's been six months now and he is well settled, he eats, takes naps and plays. His primary and secondary/buddy caretakers are great. They both really make him feel safe, secure and happy. Both of them put effort into knowing his likes and what he wants and engage him in various playful development activities. Other staff members are also very nice and do take good care of him. During times when my son was refusing to eat or was unwell, then the cook gave him his favourite meals/snacks. The first couple of settling weeks were challenging for both my son and me. Despite my many concerns and extra requests, the staff was very supportive and helped us overcome the transitional phase. Staff are not only responsive to a child's needs but also to parents' needs.

From the moment my son started at Rosewood, I have felt confident and assured he is being well taken care of. The nursery manager is exceptionally knowledgeable and was part of the decision for us. The nursery environment is light, clean and calm. My son is happy at drop-off and enjoys the food and being with the staff. I feel like this is the perfect place for his learning and development before he goes to school. The garden outside and forest school is something I know he will really enjoy using.

Review of Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School

Our daughter (2.5 years old) loves Rosewood and is always full of stories about her day. She has been there about six months and settled in quickly. Within a short amount of time, she grew in confidence, and this is due to the care and attention of the staff. She was at another nursery before for just over a year, so we had a frame of reference for comparison, and Rosewood is just fantastic. Rosewood is a smaller, more homely setting compared to some other nurseries, and this has suited our daughter well. There is a big range of activities and time spent outdoors in the wonderful garden. The mud kitchen is fantastic! While there are different rooms/areas for different age groups, the children spend lots of time together as well, which is lovely for learning from each other. The staff are kind and caring and seem to work together well as a team. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery!

Review of Rosewood Montessori Day Nursery & Forest School

Rosewood is a real gem of a nursery. The combined philosophies of Montessori, the forest school and the early year's framework have had a really positive impact on my son. He enjoys the opportunity to be creative and loves the wide range of activities. Possibly due to the restrictions of Covid, I noticed that he sometimes had difficulties playing with other children. The staff at Rosewood have been skilful in helping him understand how to initiate play with other children and how to manage difficult feelings when things go wrong. After just one week at Rosewood my son had a much more successful playdate and I felt he had really turned a corner. The staff have understood how to help him build self-esteem and he can't wait to go back there every day. The manager is an exceptional leader who has extensive knowledge of child development and a rare background in family therapy. She is a real goldmine for parents looking to help their child navigate the challenges of daily life.
