About Footsteps Nursery Walmley

Footsteps Nursery Walmley is an OFSTED GOOD (2024) nursery in Minworth, set within a converted farmhouse that offers a cosy, home-from-home environment. The nursery cares for children from 3 months to 5 years, with warm, welcoming rooms where children can settle quickly and build secure relationships with familiar adults. Families are supported by an experienced team who focus on providing consistent, nurturing care so children feel safe, valued and ready to explore.
Children enjoy a wide range of play-based experiences designed to expand their natural curiosity and support early learning, which may include stories, creative activities, problem-solving and opportunities for independence as they grow. Each child has a key person who works closely with parents to understand individual needs and celebrate progress through regular updates and photos.
Outdoor play is an essential part of daily life, with open spaces and a bespoke forest school facility that offer hands-on learning in a natural environment. Weekly forest school sessions may include exploring woodland areas, investigating natural materials and taking part in simple challenges that build resilience, confidence and a strong connection to nature. The team sees parents as partners and maintains close communication so families feel involved and reassured throughout their nursery journey.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Louise Humby

Hello, I'm Louise. I'm the nursery manager here at Footsteps Nursery Walmley. I joined Footsteps in 2013, initially as manager at our Fazeley setting, and bring over 22 years of experience working within early years.

I hold a Level 5 Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies and am passionate about developing children into confident, resilient and independent learners.

My little boy started in the baby room quite young and the support I have had from the Walmley team has been amazing. My baby is thriving and has developed so much in the time he has been at the nursery. I get great feedback from the app which updates throughout the day which gives me a huge sense of relief knowing what my baby is up to. The staff have positive attitudes towards helping with an concerns i have and direct me to an further support needed when I ask. I cant praise them enough!

Not only has my little one been made to feel welcome, is happy to go in and loves all of the activities that they do, I feel confident leaving him with the staff there. We have built a good relationship with the team and feel confident that we can discuss anything should we need to. He enjoys the toys, the activities, the outdoor space and the varied food there and is developing so well with the time the team spend with him as well as getting to be with the other children.

He is a real foodie and I love how varied the menu they offer is, it is rare that he doesn't eat all of the delicious food he is offered and I often see that he has gone back for seconds. My daughter has just started in September as we recently moved to the area. She was in another nursery before so I was worried she wouldn't settle in well. She went straight into preschool, and im pleased to say she has settled in very well. Ellie, Louise and Hannah, plus all the others involved were so helpful in helping my daughter settle in. She's only been there a short while but she already loves it and enjoys coming into nursery daily! So thank you all and defos recommend this nursery to all.

My son absolutely loves his nursery, and I couldn't be happier with the care he receives. The staff are truly lovely-always helpful, kind, and welcoming. Every morning he's greeted with a big smile and a cuddle, which makes such a difference to his day (and mine!). Review of Footsteps Nursery Walmley

We absolutely love this nursery! Every member of staff we've come into contact with has been lovely! My child absolutely LOVES coming to nursery and he has made lots of progress while being here, particularly with his speech! I have only ever had one concern during the 16 months my child has attended and when I spoke to a member of staff this was dealt with promptly and has never been an issue since! We have found and continue to find communication to be excellent with key workers and management. They are all always happy to communicate in person when you catch them at the start or end of the day and the new app they are using allows communication to be prompt throughout the day too. We love receiving the photos and videos and being able to see what he has eaten and sleep times. Other nurseries are closer to our house but Footsteps was recommended to us so we went to view and there was no competition, we wanted our child to attend! We have already secured a place for Baby number 2!

My son has been with footsteps since he was 9 months old and we are now in preschool. My years of experience with the team, all members of staff had been nothing but positive. The team are attentive build amazing relationships with the kids and identify any concerns early on. They have provided guidance and support when asked and work alongside parents to ensure development is on track. My son has loved footsteps, particularly forest school which has enhanced his experience and love of the outdoors.

The nursery in all is very good the team are always good with my children and they are developing very well. They are meeting the needs of my child with dietry needs and the kids love going there. I think recording of food should be done until pre school as the children are unable to tell you what they have eaten witch contributed in my child having low iron levels but when i asked for this the nursery complied.

Since starting at Footsteps, our son and we as a family have had nothing but a positive experience. Our son loves nursery, and it's great to see him growing both in confidence and skills every week. This is down to the happy and positive environment. All the caregivers are fantastic. Everyone is friendly and it seems they have genuine care for all the children. At pickup we always get a detailed rundown of the day which we love and they are always prompt at letting us know of any key information we know to know. We also enjoy the daily diaries. The facilities at Footsteps are brilliant. A deciding factor for us when choosing a nursery was the outdoor space. The playgrounds and forest school are something our son loves. We're really happy we chose Footsteps.

Amazing nursery, they have helped myself and my daughter through the SEN process the whole way through and she is now thriving, after having problems at home with her and not much support outside of nursery, they have arranged a meeting for myself to seek advice, my son also goes here and was very shy at first but has bonded so well with the staff and doesn't stop talking about it when he gets home! Overall brilliant nursery would not want my kids anywhere else!

My son started not long after his first birthday and has flourished with the help of the amazing team. He has now been attending for almost two years and has loved each room and staff team. Activities are always highly engaging and from experience, themes have been adapted to meet the interests of the children. Staff have always kept us very well informed of day-to-day events and strive to give personalised details of each child’s day. During toilet training, staff were on board, flexible and also suggested ideas to support the process. Overall, a fantastic facility and highly recommended. Staff are clearly passionate about what they do.

Sadly gone downhill. Poor parental communication and documentation. Fail to take an individualised approach or put the child’s needs first. When concerns raised told “staff don’t have time”. The food provided is also poor. There are many other better nurseries in the area. Serious previous issues were also raised by Ofsted.

The nursery staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They offer the kids a range of activities - forest school, trips, lots of outdoor play in the garden and a wide range of toys including kitchen corner, building blocks, sand play etc. The food menu seems to be quite nutritious including a good selection of fruits and vegetables. They provide good information to the parents about the development of the children and areas to help them work on and we appreciated it when they provided a workshop to the parents on potty training when my eldest was the appropriate age. Pre-school was great and my eldest was more than ready for reception when the time came.

Really good nursery with friendly staff and great activities for kids. My youngest loves forest school, playground and all the crafting. The nursery has good size parking for drop-offs and pick-ups. The app that we are getting all the notifications is good compared to some that other schools/nurseries use.

My son started full-time at Footsteps Walmley shortly before his second birthday having previously been at another nursery for one day a week. The onboarding process couldn’t have been more of a breeze. The staff at Footsteps Walmley made me feel so at ease with my son starting full-time nursery and relieved a mass amount of pressure from me having just started a new job role after time off that he would be in safe hands and having the best time at nursery! Since then they’ve supported myself and him throughout different stages and have been nothing short of amazing! The manager in Rising 3’s as well as the staff within her team have been great with him and he thoroughly enjoys going and is thriving every day. I’ve noticed a massive change in his speaking and general desire to learn and play more since being at Footsteps Walmley, and I can’t thank the staff enough there! I also love the amazing outdoor space available at the nursery and know that’s a favourite too!

My 2-year-old daughter has been at Footsteps Nursery since she was 9 months old and my son (now 6) was there previously. They provide a wonderful environment for the children and do an amazing job of getting to know them individually. My daughter has had to wear glasses from a young age and they were so supportive in encouraging her to do so, even buying books about children wearing glasses to read to her whilst she was getting used to them. My child has recently started at this setting and I’m so impressed with how well she has settled. This is because the staff really do care about what they do, they put the effort and time into settling my child and have made me as a father feel very comfortable! I know she’s in great hands. My daughter has recently started in the movers room. With my daughter being born just before the first pandemic, I was nervous that she would be unsettled and wouldn’t enjoy herself but I couldn’t be any more wrong. Both my children go to this nursery and have thrived with confidence and learning. My daughter loves preschool and constantly comes out happy and talkative about what she has done. My son is in toddlers now, he is saying words together, counting and he comes out happy. I highly recommend this nursery as the staff go above and beyond and if I make a request they will fulfill what I’ve asked. I wouldn’t put my children anywhere else.

My daughter started in the baby room at the start of January and after spending most of our time in lockdown I was really nervous about leaving her however, the girls in the room made me feel so at ease. My 2 boys started at Walmley Footsteps within February, where the staff and manager have gone above and beyond to help them settled in, feel comfortable and happy. My children come home content and excited to tell me about their day and who they've been looked after by. They participate in a lot of different activities including a cooking club in which they brought home a yummy cookie, it's truly lovely to see their faces light up as we speak about what they did to create it at nursery. The nursery has fabulous indoor and outdoor facilities with a separate forest school on site which is amazing as my children just love being outdoors. The nursery have adapted the menu for my youngest child's dietary needs without any complaints and the staff makes sure I know which alternatives they've had when needed which is really reassuring! We highly recommend this nursery!

My son has been at this nursery since October 2018 and has recently moved into the preschool room. The transition process couldn’t have gone smoother. He was made familiar of the staff through regular settle sessions, which helped to prepare him and now I can’t get him to leave! He has so much fun in there and I love that he has such great bonds with the staff in there, so I know that he feels safe. He always comes home telling me all about his day and his learning book is always up to date so I know what he’s been up to. I’ve recently upped his sessions because he loves it there so much. My daughter goes to Footsteps and I can’t honestly thank the teachers enough. She has adapted to nursery really well even though I was worried to leave her, she comes home with pictures and often has things loaded to the app for me to see. She always comes home full of smiles and I know she has had a great day. The office girls are great and have always been helpful in helping me understand how to set up my payment and nothing is ever too much trouble. All teachers are so friendly and always ask how we are and they have a great garden which my daughter loves. They give you free nappies and I think sun cream too which is good. The food always smells so yummy when I come by in the morning. So glad I found this nursery for my daughter.

Our daughter has been with Walmley since their opening and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. We actually travel quite a distance to get here but don’t regret that decision at all. Facilities are outstanding, communication is excellent and the extras such as forest school and cookery club are massively popular with our daughter. She has really special relationships with her key worker which is very important to us. When we pick her up she’s full of energy and happy and content. We couldn’t recommend the nursery enough.

My daughter has been attending Footsteps Nursery since July 2017. We have always been very pleased with the nursery. The different activities she takes part in during the day including Forest School and music dance class. We really love the learning journal that is regularly updated with videos and pictures of what they get up to. All the staff are very supportive of our choices and have really helped with the potty training and reducing the time she uses her dummy. We look forward to her staying at the pre-school until she is ready for school.

Me and my husband collect our granddaughter from Footsteps Walmley. We noticed just how much love and attention they give in the babies room. Our granddaughter has settled down and is very happy and contented and loves the learning activities. This is all down to the caring and lovely staff. They are a credit to the nursery. As grandparents, we are happy knowing she is in a safe environment. When we see her smiling face when we pick her up is a real joy and we are so pleased our daughter and son-in-law chose this nursery.

My niece has been at Footsteps since September and has been so happy here. I have dropped her off and picked her up many times and she is always happy when we get there, I have seen lots of really lovely activities set out and the staff are always so friendly and provide lovely feedback about the day upon collection. The nursery itself is beautiful and very inviting and homely with an amazing outdoor space including forest school. Overall, our experience in the three rooms has been very positive. Out child has shown progress in his development across a wide range of skills. He is happy and had built great relationships with staff and peers. We have noticed there is a range of levels of ability and communication amongst the staff, the vast majority of whom are excellent. Excellent facilities both inside and out, mean that staff take all opportunities to be creative and cover a wide scope of activities. Lunchtime meal encourages variety for taste buds. Would be nice to see more fruit available at breakfast, tea and snack.

My daughter started here in the baby room and as hard as it was to leave her, it has been the best thing for her. She is developing daily and I think that is down to the team in her room. Not only do they genuinely care for each and every child but they are professional, hardworking and have your child’s best interests at heart. It’s never too much trouble to stop & ask them how she’s got on that day, they always make time for us worried mums! There are new activities for her to take part in daily, from cookery, Asda trips, jo jingles, outdoor play, forestry school, painting, it's no wonder she loves it! I would highly recommend Footsteps. It’s very clean and modern with great outdoor space. They keep you informed via the app, and they cook fresh healthy meals daily. There is even a wonderful online blog where they upload pictures and videos, which is lovely! At Xmas, they did night babysitting so families could do their Xmas shopping! It’s an unbelievable nursery with everything you could wish for

I collect my granddaughter from nursery two days per week and when she started nursery we were obviously nervous about how she would settle in. We need not have worried at all as she settled in so well and it is so lovely to see how she mixes with the other children. I can’t praise the girls who look after the children enough they are lovely girls who do a great job. I would have no hesitation in recommending the nursery to other parents and grandparents.

My daughter started in the baby room at Footsteps at 12 months old and to say that I was apprehensive was an understatement. However, the staff at nursery have all been amazing helping my daughter settle in and also reassuring me. My daughter clearly loves going to nursery she is happy to carry on eating or showing me the toys that she likes to play with when I pick her up. All the staff have taken the time to get to know my daughter as an individual and you can tell they love what they do. She has a lovely bond with her key worker. It's always a friendly environment and the staff are approachable and caring. The activities are very varied and creative from arts and crafts to water play to playing musical instruments. The outdoor space is great. The meals and snack variety on offer is great too, she is fed better than me! I feel that my daughter has really benefited from attending and this is down to the staff being great at what they do! This is an excellent nursery, I highly recommend.

My daughter joined the baby room at Footsteps in September 2018 and both her and our experience has been excellent. The staff are great with her and she always does a variety of activities. She absolutely loves going to Footsteps and always has a smile on her face when we drop her off and pick her up. As with most parents, we were worried about her starting nursery as we weren't sure how she would take to it. I have to say we are pleased we chose Footsteps and the staff in the baby room have really taken the time to get to know her. I couldn't recommend this nursery enough and thank you for doing a great job!
