About Footsteps Nursery Stratford

Footsteps Nursery Stratford is an OFSTED GOOD (2024) nursery in Stratford-upon-Avon, located on Timothys Bridge Road within a modern, purpose-built setting. The nursery offers early years education and quality childcare for children from birth to 5 years, with light, air-conditioned rooms that feel calm, welcoming and designed around young childrens needs. Families can feel confident in a friendly, professional team who provide consistent care and a reassuring, home-from-home atmosphere.
Children experience a broad range of activities and resources that may include sensory exploration, early language, imaginative play and creative projects, all shaped by the Early Years Foundation Stage. A dedicated sensory room with interactive resources supports even the youngest children to explore safely and build confidence through gentle, multi-sensory experiences.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Jo Golding

My name is Jo Golding, I have been working in childcare for 30 years, working for Footsteps Nursery for 19 years. I have a Level 3 Early years qualification and Level 3 Forest school leader qualification.

I started at Footsteps in 2007 as Duty Manager and Preschool senior. I then became Deputy Manager in 2012 where I supported the nursery Manager with the day to day running of the nursery. In July 2022 Family First purchased a nursery in Shipston on Stour and I was lucky to be promoted to Nursery Manager where I was fortunate to gain an Outstanding Ofsted result, only 2 weeks into my position. After 8 months I returned to Footsteps Stratford where I am now currently the nursery manager.

Out of work I am a Mum to 2 children, Maddie who is 20yrs and doing her Level 3 apprentice with me at Footsteps, and Isaac who is 16 currently completing his GCSE’s.

I enjoy socialising with friends, and eating out in restaurants, I am currently doing up my new house which I purchased in September.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum at Footsteps is made up of three areas: confident communicator, independent investigator and resilient resolver. Children are encouraged to develop and learn through exciting and challenging activities, enrichment continuous provision and role modelling from the team.

Children's learning is driven by their interests, and each child is set learning intentions to work towards, with the three areas embedded throughout. The curriculum is the intent of the learning, teaching is the implementation and the achievement is the impact of the learning.

I'm very happy overall with nursery.. the staff are very friendly and helpful.. my daughter is thoroughly enjoying herself and learning is so much fun for her.. I have noticed a great change in her learning and her confidence in herself while being at nursery.. my only issue I've had have been fees and expenses with invoices in the past but this has been explained and since changed to have better understanding..

Staff are so accommodating, supportive and forthcoming with development and it's carried on to outside the nursery also. My daughter is always happy to arrive and her interactions with staff and the other children are great. She's blossomed into herself with confidence. I struggled personally the thought of leaving my child to return back to work but couldn't be anymore happier to have this establishment that has helped my daughter progress and be comfortable. My child loves going to Footsteps nursery. They've been attending since they were 11 months old. Every day they go in and they have an absolute whale of a time. The team who look after them very clearly love every child that they look after, and my baby will be joining them later in the year when I return to work. I can't think of anyone else I'd rather leave him with. When I was choosing a nursery, one of my biggest priorities was that the child would feel loved when the parent wasn't there to be able to do that for them. We have absolutely hit the jackpot with Footsteps.

Our son has been attending this preschool since he was 10 months old, and we've had a wonderful experience. The teachers are kind, caring, and always make sure the children feel safe and happy. Footsteps Stratford is amazing. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Staff are absolutely lovely and know the children in their care. The children are so well looked after, and the activities they do each day clearly stimulate and excite the children. The staff also take time to support in the management of medical issues; our child has recently been given an inhaler, and I trust the team of staff who work with him completely to monitor and use it accordingly. This trust is so important for a parent and just shows how amazing they are.

Both of our sons have attended Footsteps Stratford upon Avon and we couldn't recommend it more highly. From Babies right through to Preschool, all of the rooms and staff are excellently setup in meeting the age groups needs. The nursery has an excellent outdoor space and Forest School area which my children have loved. The Children create special bonds with the staff and my eldest son still enjoys visiting nursery to go and tell everyone what he's been doing at school. There is great variety in the Children's days which keeps them entertained and wanting to keep coming back for more!

My child has the most wonderful time at Footsteps. She is happy and safe and absolutely thriving. The staff are highly experienced and always put the children first. Review of Footsteps Nursery Stratford

My 4 year old has been going to footsteps Stratford for a couple of years. The staff have always been fantastic with us as a family. It goes without saying that they really do cater to all the needs of the children but they are so considerate with external factors, such as when I work away for long periods of time. The extra clubs that are available are brilliant, from learning French, to football, building a perfect foundation for whatever the future brings. The managers are always happy to discuss anything you wish and will make time to chat to all for face to face queries. I have also noticed the nursery is striving to Continually Improve the setting and they welcome any suggestions from parents. All in all, the nursery is very welcoming and incredibly caring.

Our experience with Footsteps has been fantastic. They provide outstanding care and our daughter has been so happy here. She loves it so much that often she likes to play "nursery" at home and recreates some of the activities they do. The staff in each room have been so kind and caring and they are all so creative, they constantly come up with all sorts of fun activities through which they encourage learning. Kids spend a lot of time outside and the access to a Forest school and allotment is invaluable. We absolutely love it and can't recommend it enough.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Stratford

Both of our sons have attended the nursery since 9 months old and in each room the staff have been so caring and reassuring. Knowing that the boys are looked after so well has made returning to work after maternity leave so much easier. We are always so impressed with the pieces of art or craft the boys have made, the songs they learn and sing to us at home, and all the stories they read too. Our eldest son now attends the preschool and we are so impressed by all the activities he does including Forest School, Cooking, Football and French. Above all, the boys always seem so happy at nursery and can't wait to tell us about their days. We could not be happier with our decision to send our children to Footsteps and continue to recommend it to all our friends!

My daughter loves coming to Footsteps. She gets excited about who might be there and what they might be doing. Every night on the run-up to doing the Christmas show she came home enthusiastic, singing the songs they'd been practising. The nursery team are always supportive and positively engages with the children. As the parent I also find them easy to talk to about my daughter and her progress or issues that may arise. For example, when she felt unwell recently and wasn't her usual vibrant self. It's nice to know she's happy here and in safe hands.

The nursery provides lots of interactive activities for children and good care. The food menu is varied and adequate for children's age and also well distributed/divided over the day. My child has been at footsteps since just before his 2nd birthday he is now coming up to 4. He has got strong bonds with all the staff he sees and talks so highly about the staff. He has made some wonderful friendships. He goes in with a big smile on his face excited for the day. The activities on offer are great and he will tell me what he's been up to. He especially enjoys forest school which is a great opportunity for him to explore outside. He had transitioned well from room to room. He used to be a fussy eater but is now willing to try different foods and this is thanks to the staff who have supported him with this. I would 100% recommend Footsteps to anyone who is looking for outstanding care for their child/children.

I cannot praise Footsteps Nursery & Pre-school enough, they’re brilliant! My daughter has been here for 14 months now, and given she started during COVID I was a bit of a nervous wreck. The staff member in the baby room was amazing and helped settle my nerves and did everything she could (within Covid rules and regulations) to make sure I was comfortable leaving her which made such a difference. My daughter is now in Movers one and loves the staff in there so much. She sometimes doesn’t even wave goodbye when I drop her off! She’s too excited to go for a cuddle and play and see her friends. For anyone looking for a nursery then I highly recommend footsteps and knowing my daughter is safe and loved while I’m at work makes such a difference.

Footsteps Nursery & Pre-school (Stratford) has been amazing for all my children over the last seven years. From babies all the way to upper preschool we have had fantastic care, support and activities. The staff have played a huge part in my children’s development and our lives. My children run in each day excited to see everyone, even after a break at home last spring. We loved watching the zoom catch ups and staff videos on YouTube and still occasionally watch some, particularly the stories! Thank you for all you do. We will be very sad to say goodbye to that chapter of our family’s life when school starts in September.

I'm so incredibly happy with Footsteps Nursery & Pre-school (Stratford). My daughter has been there for over two years now and she loves it. The staff are very caring, helpful and on top of everything. I never feel that I have to worry about my daughter when I’m at work. We love the progress reports and the photos we get every trimester, it’s lovely to see what my daughter has been up to and good to see what we can be doing to help keep her in line with the Early Years Learning Framework. The children seem to get lots of time outdoors enjoying forest school or the play ground.

Our son started Footsteps preschool in September 2020, having spent 9 months at home with the lockdown, we were very worried as to how he would react, especially when this was his first real time of being in a nursery setting. We had met the staff beforehand, spent time planning for his induction, treading very carefully the night before, worrying how he would settle. When he started he took to it very well, the staff were brilliant with him, made him settle down, he had the most enjoyable time and every day since he happily wants to go, better than being home with mummy and daddy in lockdown no3. We would highly recommend it. Best thing we did for his development.

Excellent experience. Extremely welcoming nursery staff. Formed quick bonds with my 1-year-old. Detailed observations of her settle in period. Feedback is positive and she seems very happy when she goes in/comes home. Have noticed she is exploring more - I feel they encourage a great range of play/activities. My first child is now in the upper school; since he started, he has enjoyed attending. Especially going to forest school and taking part in science activities. All members of staff are friendly and know him. He has grown loads and made friends. The nursery is very good and always there to speak with. As my eldest child enjoys it that much, our youngest has just started and is also enjoying their time in the baby room. Through COVID times, they have kept in touch and provided activities to help enjoy with the children at home. It is a safe and welcoming environment. Would recommend to all.

My daughter has been at Stratford-upon-Avon Footsteps since she was 12 months old (now currently 3). I would not hesitate to recommend this setting to any parents considering their childcare options. The setting is welcoming and we have had personalised care since day 1. Special mention to the staff, they are always so helpful, caring and happy, the latter being so important as it rubs off on the children within their care. It is such a nurturing environment. Particular mention for the manager and the team who, during the last few months of a pandemic, has been brilliant making everything safe but at no detriment to the caring environment for the children. Having looked at several nursery settings in the area, we are glad we choose Footsteps. Our son has attended since he was 6 months old and the staff were very supportive to him and me during the initial settling in period. Our son has thrived in the setting. Key points for us were the high levels of training for staff, very low turnover of staff, opening hours were 7 am - 7 pm pre-COVID, have understandably reduced slightly in the current times. Meal plans are on a monthly basis so good variety and prepared on-site. I find the levels of cleanliness good. So far we have only met the staff from the baby room, but all have been very friendly and kind to our son. They make time to talk to us at drop-offs and pick-ups and give us a good level of detail on our son's day. Good range of activities, outdoor space including forest school. Currently undergoing an extension for the movers group. Use of learning book app allows us to see our son’s progress and for us to share activities from home.

Footsteps is a fantastic nursery and I would highly recommend it to other parents. The managers and staff are so welcoming and most importantly they make your child feel happy and excited about attending nursery each day. They offer earlier opening times than other nurseries in Stratford upon Avon, which is ideal for parents that travel for work. Having one child attend from the baby room through to preschool and my second currently there now, I have been apart of the Footsteps family for many years. I will be very sad when my second child leaves for school but shall be thankful for all the support they have given my children and myself in developing and getting them school ready.

My two daughters have both been through Footsteps Stratford Upon Avon - the youngest from 6 months to completion in Upper Pre-School - and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Having experienced a couple of other nurseries with the eldest daughter prior to moving to the midlands, I can honestly say that Footsteps excels in all areas and have the most professional, yet friendliest staff. We will be sad to leave, but can whole-heartedly say to anyone looking for nurseries in Stratford Upon Avon, that Footsteps is the place to visit.

My little boy has been attending Footsteps Nursery & Pre-school (Stratford) for almost 6 months. After the initial settling in phase, he is usually very happy to go in in the mornings which is a great sign he enjoys it. The staff are incredibly on the ball and very accommodating to his needs or our requests. The activities are so imaginative and fun and he always eats his meals. I sent him here on a recommendation from a friend and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the nursery to friends and family.

My little boy started in the baby room with Footsteps in January 2019 when he was 10 months old. I am so pleased we picked Footsteps. He is so happy here and settled in very quickly, there is nothing more reassuring when I hand him over in a morning and he waves me off. When he first started I could phone up as often as I wanted to check if he was alright. The staff are very approachable and nothing is to much trouble, they are clearly invested in the children and from day one I felt comfortable leaving my child in their care. There is not a high turnover of staff, they have a good variety of freshly cooked food, they are very accommodating to our needs and he is always sent home in clean clothes. They provide a daily report card with the activities done, times of nappy changes and whether it's wet or soiled, what food he's had and how much, times and lengths of naps. He does a good variety of activities and they get time outside every day.

As a parent who has a lot of experience in the sector, I have found the care and provision excellent. The staff are always on hand to meet and greet the parents in the mornings and are highly qualified with excellent knowledge of the EYFS curriculum. The Key Worker system is consistent and my child's key worker is always there to talk to should I have any concerns or queries. There is a fantastic handover at drop off and pick up and I am aware of all activities that have taken place. There is a wide variety of experiences for the children including a sensory room and outdoor space. Staff adhere to parents' requests with regards to keeping a consistent approach to their care at home and try to match this within the nursery where possible. Hours are very suitable to our needs as a family as they are open 7-7. I highly recommend this nursery to anyone looking for a full-time day nursery.

Since my eldest started back in 2015, I have experienced nothing but excellent care at this nursery. The management does everything they can to support the parents and children, the staff are fun, nurturing and above all exceptionally caring. The activities are always imaginative and fun, and I am amazed by how much can be achieved in one day! Both boys love going into nursery and always come out with a big smile on their faces. Fantastic setting and very caring staff. They really understand the needs of each individual child and always give me thorough daily updates on what he has been up to and eaten, etc. The staff are so happy and friendly and upper preschool provide an environment where my son can learn - he tells me French words, talks about the months, etc and can spell his name already. This has all been learned at Footsteps. My daughter previously attended and I had the same very positive experience. Great activities and opportunities for parents to be involved. Really impressed.

Generally I am happy with the nursery, I would like to have a more detailed report at the end of the day and I feel that the meals I am paying for are not worth the money particularly when they are not eaten. The Quorn meal was most annoying, but soup is unacceptable also. I appreciate it can be difficult to clean every child’s face but they should be encouraged to wash before and after meals. Discipline is questionable. Parking is ridiculous. Daily activities seem to be fun and educational. My child enjoys forest school, cooking club and French. She particularly enjoys the visits to the care home. Majority of staff are excellent.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Stratford

We currently have two children at the nursery, a baby and a 3.5 yr old, the latter has been attending for three years. The care of both children is excellent. They are both equally happy to go to and be at nursery. The facilities are great. It is a forest school nursery and they do activities outside in all weathers. They have a play area, a garden, a great mud kitchen and a covered area for the babies. The children have access to large, interactive touch screen equipment and there is a lovely sensory room too. The older children get to play football, learn French and do cooking club. All the staff are friendly, engaged and well qualified. Children have a dedicated key worker but our children have also really bonded well with many of the other staff in both their own rooms and throughout. It’s a lovely atmosphere. Review of Footsteps Nursery Stratford

The staff at Footsteps in Stratford upon Avon constantly go above and beyond in the care they provide our child. With a disability and special developmental needs, we were extremely anxious about putting her in to nursery, but she absolutely loves her time there! Smiling and laughing as soon as we step foot in the building! She doesn't even look back at us when we leave her in the morning. That's purely down to the love, dedication and time the staff take in looking after her. It's the little touches that really make this nursery exceptional..the photo montage the staff put together of our baby enjoying her first settling in session. The phone calls when she was admitted to hospital very poorly, to check on her. The special utensils/stationary they didn't have to, but chose to buy, so as much as possible, she can do what all other babies do. We were really nervous about putting our child in to nursery but can relax knowing she's in the best possible care.
