Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Guy Hanscombe

Hello, I'm Guy, the manager at Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School. I've been working in childcare since 1998 and joined the nursery in 2005 when we first opened. I hold my NNEB, Level 4 in early years, and Level 5 in management.

I was employed as a practitioner at my last student placement and worked my way up to room leader and senior roles at other local settings. When I joined Woodlands, I started as deputy manager for two years before becoming manager.

My approach centres on making sure children feel safe and secure so they have the confidence to explore and flourish. When children feel emotionally settled, they're free to learn, play, and develop at their own pace.

What I love most is seeing the children grow and move on to school as confident, capable individuals.

Our Commitments

Our curriculum is built around five core commitments that guide how we nurture every child.

Critical And Creative Thinkers

Nurturing curiosity and confidence to imagine, test ideas, and solve problems through exploration.

Sense of Belonging

Building secure, trusting relationships so every child feels safe, valued, and confident.

Explorers of Our World

Connecting children to nature through outdoor experiences that build resilience and independence.

Confident Communicators

Supporting every child to express themselves in ways that are meaningful to them.

Happy and Healthy

Encouraging physical activity, healthy eating, and joyful experiences that support lifelong wellbeing.

Our Curriculum

We deliver a well-sequenced and ambitious curriculum that enables children to build on what they know and can do. We link learning meaningfully to children's interests, such as extending conversations about eggs into exploration of animals and their habitats.

This approach deepens children's understanding of the natural world, supports memory retention and encourages curiosity through connected learning experiences.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

When we first walked into Woodlands we loved the cosy and creative feel. There are hand-drawn pictures for book week, photos of littles & their families, art projects on every wall and clear communication around their priorities and practices. The first impression was of a team who deeply, deeply cared about children's outcomes & wanted to create a community/ collaborative feel. Having now joined I can say that solid first impression has just gotten better and better. The staff are so kind, warm and caring (to both kids and parents), the policies are sound, the attention to detail around diet, sleep, changing and play is second to none. It is the kind of nursery that you hope for and (after touring several others) aren't sure exists. We absolutely love Woodlands, feel enormously grateful to staff & highly recommend it to other parents.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

The nursery is fabulous. They're very careful with my toddler. Their policies are robust, around sleep, eating and weaning. Around all elements of your child's safety. They also do great educational and developmental activities on a daily basis, and my toddler is thriving and developing. They have very strict rules around safeguarding. Management always replies really quickly to any queries and works alongside you to work on a routine that works for your child.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

The nursery has a wonderful home from home feeling and staff are incredibly committed and caring - special shout outs to three staff members in inventors. Three other staff members remain firm favourites with our daughter too. Activities are well thought through and the development of our daughter as she gets ready for school is evident. Thanks to the manager and the whole team.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

My son has been in attendance since October 2024, and it has been incredible to watch his development since he joined. I love receiving the observations from his key worker to mark developmental stages and after a period of settling in, it's a joy to watch him go Into nursery with a smile on his face. The nursery is a very welcoming environment and they do a great variety of activities each day, as well as offering excellent healthy meals.

The staff are caring and attentive, they plan a good variety of activities which encourage the children to explore and develop their skills. We enjoy hearing from them how he has enjoyed his day, both in person and through the app. We appreciate the record of developmental milestones and daily diary on the app.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

Overall, we are happy with the staff and our son's happiness at nursery. However, we have concerns about the frequent turnover of staff, as consistency is important for the children. Additionally, there have been extended periods where work was being carried out, reducing the space available for play and learning. We would appreciate clarity on how these issues are being managed.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

We absolutely love Woodlands! Ever since our son started there a year ago it's been brilliant. Every single staff member clearly cares a lot for each child and helps them learn and grow into wonderful people. The food is excellent and my son often has seconds or even a cheeky third helping ! He loves playing in the garden, which they have free flow access to. He enjoys getting involved in the activities and the zoo mornings touching insects and other creatures! Recently when I had a small complaint about something, I spoke to the manager who immediately implemented a change and I saw instant results and couldn't be happier. Not only do they care about the children but the adults too. If you are upset one day at drop off or pick up they'll do their best to ask you if you're ok too. We couldn't be happier at Woodlands and we highly recommend it.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

We have been using Woodlands Nursery for the last 3 years, and have nothing but positive comments to share. Whilst we were very happy with everything prior to the family's first takeover, we would definitely agree everything has improved since. All members of staff are friendly, caring and nurturing towards the children. We like the child-led approach to learning through play as well as making the most of the outdoor space, which is much better now with less plastic and will be even better if it can be extended through to next door! The meals are wholesome and nutritious, with both my kids wanting seconds! Thank you all so much for looking after our children. Keep it up!

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

My son has been at Woodlands since he was 8.5 months old. The staff instantly made us and him feel at ease, he had no issues settling in and absolutely loves every day spent at nursery! All the staff are friendly, kind, caring, patient and sympathetic towards first-time parents (like us!) They always listen to any needs or requests and are happy to suggest solutions and help. It is wonderful seeing what he has learnt every day, how much he enjoys each day and how welcomed he is by all the staff. We are so glad we chose Woodlands!

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

I chose Woodlands Nursery because of a few initial reasons: When doing my research, their values and ethos of care matched my own as a person and a parent. There is a good mix of diversity within the staff. The nursery manager was so welcoming, and thorough and oozed supportive manager vibes (happy employees, happy children). I got a good feel whenever I communicated with the manager, and when I went to visit the nursery from the children and staff there. My daughter has been at the nursery for over six months now. She attends part-time, 8am-6pm, 51 weeks a year. She has a great relationship with her key workers, and I always feel they are looking out for her. The children are encouraged to be independent, and they learn through play. There are daily updates via the app. The main drawback is the size of the outside area, however, there is always a variety of activities for the children to do in the outside space. Overall, this is a nurturing, fun, encouraging nursery.

Review of Woodlands Day Nursery and Pre-School

Our experience here has been wonderful. Having come from a negative previous setting I was nervous about putting my son in somewhere else but he is thriving! The team are all so polite and kind, really welcoming towards both the children and parents. The food is excellent! Overall he’s loving it and I am too, his key worker is fab and the communication from the management on the app is spot on. Highly recommend it.
