About The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School

The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School is an OFSTED GOOD (2024) nursery in East Finchley, on Hertford Road close to transport links into central London. Our nursery cares for children from 3 months to 5 years in a former Baptist church that has been thoughtfully restored and refurbished into a safe, warm and welcoming environment, with strong safeguarding and nurturing care helping each child feel settled and ready to learn.
Our characterful church building offers high ceilings, light-filled rooms and a child-centred layout that supports focused learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our dedicated team is known for going the extra mile to ensure children receive the best care and encouragement in their early years.
Our outdoor space is used throughout the year, with toddlers and pre-schoolers enjoying garden time in age-appropriate slots so everyone has room to explore. Children may take part in local outings in the community and initiatives like planting three special trees from The Tree Council, helping them learn to care for nature and feel proud of their environment.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Voula Agiannidou

Hi, I'm Voula, the nursery manager at The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School. I joined in 2015. I am a qualified teacher with a Degree in Nursery Education, the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and qualified in Paediatric First Aid.

At our nursery, we love learning through a variety of activities. We enjoy science experiments, practising our writing skills and phonetics, and learning all about numbers as part of our school readiness. We love going on trips to the woods and allotments, and developing physical skills through running, climbing and yoga.

Caring for children is such a rewarding career and I strive to encourage our children to progress, reach their full potential and be happy, independent learners. As a team, we build close bonds with the children and work together in achieving our goals.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is built around five key areas: Physical Development, Independence, Celebrating Our Uniqueness, Communication and Environment. Together, these support children to grow in confidence, capability and understanding of the world around them.

Through physical development, children explore risk, build coordination and develop resilience through trial and error. Independence is nurtured by encouraging children to make their own choices and connections with people who can support them. We celebrate uniqueness by being inclusive, exploring cultural experiences and enjoying stories and music in different languages.

Communication skills are developed through attentive listening, following instructions and learning to express ideas and narratives. Children are also encouraged to explore and care for nature, develop life skills through empowering environments and feel part of their local community.

We couldn't be happier with the care our son receives at The Finchley Nursery. From the very beginning, the staff have been incredibly kind, caring and welcoming and the level of warmth and attention makes such a difference. The quality of care is truly exceptional. Our son feels safe, happy and valued every single day, which gives us complete peace of mind as parents. The activities provided are wonderfully varied and exciting. Each day is filled with engaging opportunities for learning and play, encouraging creativity, confidence, and curiosity. The structured routine gives the children stability and helps them thrive, while still allowing plenty of fun and exploration. Communication with parents is excellent. You wont find a better nursery than The Finchley! My niece currently attends and my nephew attended a few years ago. This is a home away from home for us and the staff now feel like family! The love and care all the staff have shown throughout is a true testament to how amazing the team are at The Finchley. The settling is processes and room transitions were smooth and they were and are always excited and happy to go in and excited about the days activities. This really is an incredible nursery and it is so comforting to our family to know they are in the best hands!

My son has attended for over nine months now and has a wonderful time which is the main thing I need from a Nursery. The staff all seem lovely and trustworthy and get to know the children well. They send nice updates so you know what your child has been up to. I would like it if they did a few more outings to the woods or something, but otherwise they seem to have a good range of activities. The garden is quite small but the kids still do lots of different things. They are also very helpful with potty training. Thank you!

I am thoroughly impressed with the nursery! The staff are amazing - warm, caring, and truly dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for the children. The learning opportunities are great and I love how they're tailored to each child's unique needs and interests. The outdoor space is great, the children get plenty of fresh air and exercise, the equipment is well-maintained and stimulating, for example their mud kitchen and sand pit in the baby garden! But what really sets this nursery apart is the communication, they are fantastic at liaising with us. The management team is very involved and approachable. The team keep us informed about my child's daily activities and progress through a great online app and we receive daily photos too. The nursery organise many different events to celebrate everyone's culture within the nursery. Overall, I'm thrilled with the nursery and would highly recommend it to any parent looking for a high-quality early years setting.

Where do I start?! What an amazing nursery with such a bubbly and caring team. My now 17 month old joined The Finchley back in December, he had such an amazing settling experience, all the staff were so supportive with myself as I was a bit nervous. My son is absolutely THRIVING at nursery, he is learning so many new things. He is thoroughly enjoying all the fun messy play activities along with their extra curricular activity such as Drama, my son LOVES music and is having a blast during these sessions. The baby garden is a perfect size, so much room to run around and explore different things such as a big sand pit area and mud kitchen along with all the fun toys they set up daily. I cannot thank all the lovely staff members in his room enough! Along with all the staff members I have met so far, what an amazing job you are all doing! Very very friendly and nurturing environment for my little boy. Thank you The Finchley!

We've been with the nursery since 2021. Both my daughter went to the nursery and my son currently goes there. We absolutely love it! It is a small, kind and caring nursery where the staff absolutely makes it what is it is. The team has taken such good care of my kids, are so personable and actually care about them. They support my kids with their needs, help them grow and learn and are very nurturing. My kids are happy to go in and enjoy themselves during the day. I'm very happy with it and would highly recommend.

We had a wonderful experience at the Little Garden Nursery. The staff are all amazing, caring and supportive. My twins have thrived here and developed so well. The garden is lovely (although not very big) and the children have plenty of outdoor playtime, no matter the weather! The activities are always varied and engaging. The drama and french classes were a favourite of ours. Office admin was a bit disorganised but has gotten much better overall I would 100% recommend.

This year she moved up into the 2-3 year old room and the nursery were great and super supportive with the transition. My son has been in the baby room for a year after starting at 10 months and his growth and development has been incredible. Leaving your child in the care of others is so difficult at first but they made the settling in process stress free and it is heartwarming to see how much they care for my son and all of the children in the class. He is constantly surprising us with all of the wonderful things he picks up from nursery and we have no doubt that his confidence and independence has flourished thanks to their guidance and environment. He is excited to go in every day and see what excitement is in store and it gives us great peace of mind to know he is happy and very well looked after!

My daughter (2.5yrs) has been in this nursery for 14 months. First starting in the infant room Meerkats and currently in the toddler room, Koalas. The nursery is staffed by warm, qualified individuals that truly care about the children. They managed my daughters settling and her the transition to the toddler room SO well. It speaks volumes about the nursery when a child wakes up excited to go in and, almost every day at pickup, happily shares that she had a "really good day." That enthusiasm is a true reflection of the care, commitment, and thoughtful management that make this nursery such a special place. I've seen incredible growth in my daughter since she started here. Despite the small garden, there's plenty of space for the kids to have a great time, and the staff are truly committed to giving them lots of outdoor play. She was in a different nursery at first, and we are SO happy we made the move. I genuinely believe this is the best nursery in the area!

All the staff at this nursery are phenomenal. They make us feel that our children are well taken care of. The nursery take feedback really well. There are brilliant structured activities for the children and a great menu. My only qualm would be that the baby room does not have a seperate sleep room and babies play and sleep in the same area. Which means if your baby is a light sleeper the transition period is going be long and always have an overtired baby. This is more of a ratio/space issue that head office were not able to solve and thus we took our youngest somewhere else but will most definitely bring her back when she's two and can go to the toddler room (where there is a seperate sleep room and play room). Also, the garden is small. Our daughter doesn't mind but I imagine if you have very active children that need to run around loads, it might be a problem. Love this nursery so much!

Having moved to Little Garden Nursery after a really terrible previous nursery experience, Little Garden was the best choice we could possibly make for our twins. My daughter has been at the nursery since she was 14 months old and is now almost 3. She was initially settled with so much care and love in the baby room and then again for the step up into the toddler room seamlessly. We are extremely happy with the way the nursery has nurtured her and excited her every day. Their guidance and help with potty training was exceptional and she was potty trained so quickly thanks to their assistance. The staff are all very loving, experienced, knowledgeable and caring meeting the needs of both the children and the parents. She has so much enjoyment and finds the day very fulfilling. We particularly love the children experiencing all festivities and celebrations and the multinational flags outside the nursery giving a global international vibe. The nursery has beautiful rooms and equipment and an outside play area which is safe and engaging. Absolutely happy with our choice!

Review of The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School

We visited a few nurseries in the area and really liked the family feel of this one. At this early age, our main aim was to have the babies part from us every morning feeling happy and comfortable in the setting. This happened very quickly as the staff are all very warm, calm and caring. They do all the typical activities you would expect but also make huge efforts to celebrate festivals of different faiths and key dates in the year. They host special Mother’s/Father’s Day breakfasts and many other events which parents are welcome to. Since joining in August 2022, the nursery has employed additional members of staff. Our children have had the same key members throughout which is hugely important as I know many nurseries with regular staff turnover. We get a daily log and photos of the activities covered. Staff are approachable and open which makes it a wonderful place to leave our babies at each day.

We are very glad to have found such a lovely nursery for our children and we currently have our second child at the nursery. Both children enjoyed (and enjoy) going to the nursery (formerly known as Scribbles). The best thing and arguably the most important thing about any nursery is the staff who are absolutely fantastic. They are very caring and kind and the kids love them. Both children have grown so much and learned a lot during their time at the nursery. They offer a lot of different activities (French, drama, etc.), weekly show-and-tell topics to learn about and even small and even 'small homework' to do. The management is brilliant, very responsive and helpful. We couldn't have chosen a better nursery and we will be very sad when it is time to say goodbye!

I have to say this nursery is the best! I have had experience with other nursery and my son was always coming home crying. Since he started there, he is very happy and excited to go. Moreover, the staff are very welcoming and kind. Any concerns that you might have, they are ready to help and support you. I can't mention any names but you can tell they are the right people for the job (from management team to the room key workers) as they are attentive towards your child. I am very happy that my son attends to this nursery and I wouldn't change anything.

I have my 1 year old at The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School and had my 5 years old son there for 3 years, which is already proof of how much I appreciate this place. The staff are fantastic, they assisted my son in settling in well. He used to cry at first, but after a few weeks, he was settled and happy to be there. They were patient with him when he cried, friendly when approaching him, and quickly learned what he liked so he would interact more. The environment is very calm and not overly stimulating for the children. I appreciate the daily updates, and the communication is excellent. They inform us of what we need to bring, any upcoming events, any incidents, and what they have been up to. They also host sweet events such as Mother's Day breakfasts, where children handcrafted paintings for their mothers - this was absolutely lovely and a little emotional. I was initially concerned about him attending daycare at such a young age (especially given our previous experience elsewhere), but they created a caring environment for him to enjoy, play, and learn. I am eternally grateful.

We could not speak more highly of the nursery staff at the Little Garden Finchley Day Nursery. We knew settling in would not be easy for our daughter as she was used to spending time with us at home, but the staff did everything they could to help her feel at ease. 6 months have passed and the unimaginable has happened. Our daughter absolutely loves going to nursery! She can't wait to meet up with her new friends and learn new skills with the staff. We are incredibly thankful and would highly recommend this nursery to any parent!

My daughter has been at Scribbles since January (she was 13-months then), and she absolutely loves it. When we visited the local nurseries, we found that Scribbles was the most homely of them all, which we really liked. The nursery is set in a lovely former church, which makes it very unique. The classes are small so that the children are well looked after. The staff are truly amazing and create such a nurturing environment for the children. They do a lot of messy and sensory play, singing songs and creative stuff, and my daughter is always excited to go in every morning. She learned so much since she's been there. We definitely made the right choice for her.

Review of The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School

We are very happy with Scribbles. The staff are patient and understanding when it comes to our son (now 15-months-old), and they have been amazing in helping him settle into nursery. We like that they are open-minded and flexible when it comes to reusable nappies and often help us do our bit for the planet. The app they use is great! It is easy to use and gives us updates on a daily basis of what our son has been up to. It's a good way of telling us if the nursery needs more things for him (i.e. change of clothes, cream), menus and if they are planning something special at the nursery like dressing up for Halloween or an outing. Due to Covid, parents are not allowed inside the nursery for drop-off/pick-up. So often during busy times, a little queuing outside might be required. Personally, I think it is fine to wait, just need to factor that time in when we go drop-off/pick-up. It is in a way, the 'new' normal. This measure is there to protect the children and the staff that look after them.

I would highly recommend Scribbles. My daughter is so happy there, and the staff are excellent. I couldn’t have asked for better care for her, and I feel so assured she is in good hands. For me, the key to finding a good nursery was how I felt about the staff and the vibe I got, and Scribbles ticked that box straight away. Everyone is warm, friendly and most importantly, honest. Communication to parents on a day to day basis is personal, thorough and exactly what I wanted. The management is strict on policy, but this is required, in my opinion, and ensures all children are safe. It may not be the most polished or modern-looking place, but I believe everything is clean and kept to a high standard. I expected my daughter to come home with multiple bugs and illnesses since going to nursery, but she has been absolutely fine and has only had a few sniffles now and again, but nothing serious. I am very happy, and so is my daughter, and would recommend Scribbles to all parents.

Review of The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School

My 3-year-old daughter absolutely loves coming into Scribbles Nursery. It's such a beautiful nursery. The staff and team at Scribbles Nursery are simply the best! They provide the best care and always provide detailed feedback on my daughter's activities for each day. Scribbles Nursery has been the best nursery; I love their attention and care for us. My daughter has learned so much and has many friends. I'm extremely happy with the nursery! I highly recommend it.

Review of The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School

Scribbles is a wonderful nursery, and we feel lucky to have found it. It has a warm and nurturing atmosphere, and the staff are caring and enthusiastic. The nursery provides excellent care and works in partnership with parents to make sure children feel happy and secure. There is a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities, and the kids have lots of fun being creative and getting involved in celebrating various events and festivals throughout the year. Our youngest child has learnt so much and loves her time at Scribbles, and our eldest daughter has fond memories of her keyworkers. We would happily recommend the nursery to other parents.

Review of The Finchley Day Nursery & Pre-School

Our daughter loves the nursery! Every day is filled with different activities, and we can really see how she has developed since she started. We particularly like the way the nursery celebrates special days - all different religious holidays, national days, etc, and how they have implemented a Covid secure environment. The menu is also very good.
