Nutritional Approach
We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.
All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager
Jade Thomas
Hi, I'm Jade. I was part of the start-up team at Stationhouse Nursery in 2013. I started my early years career in 2005 after learning I had a real passion for helping children to achieve and thrive in everything they do. After gaining my Level 3 in Early Years and a few years of working in nurseries, I travelled to Mozambique, Africa to fulfil my passion of helping children and adults who don't have access to the greatest of life opportunities. I worked in an orphanage, preschool and taught young adults English.
In 2017, I graduated from Bath Spa University with a 2:1 in Early Years Education. I am super passionate about my role here at nursery and believe that if the staff are happy and treated well, the children will become confident, curious and resilient learners. Our motto here is "it's our nature to nurture" and that is at the core of everything we do.

Our Commitments
Our curriculum is built around five core commitments that guide how we nurture every child.

Our Curriculum
'It's our Nature to Nurture' is at the very core of all that we do, forming a foundation for our curriculum. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage framework as a guide. Each child is wonderfully unique, so we respond to individual children's interests and fascinations, giving them ownership over their learning and making them enthusiastic about lifelong learning.
Our goal is to create children who are confident, resilient and curious, with a love of learning, a passion for reading and the ability to create positive relationships. We value the key person role in creating strong, healthy attachments with our youngest children and continuing that golden thread throughout their whole nursery experience.
We draw on knowledge of different pedagogies to create environments and experiences based on the needs of our children, including principles of the Pikler approach, Steiner Education, Reggio Emilia and The Curiosity Approach. We value the environment as the third teacher and focus on real life everyday objects and those found in nature to create learning opportunities.
We work hard to create authentic relationships with all our children and their families, believing in strong parent partnerships. Portishead is a close-knit community, and we believe strong links with the community help teach children about their responsibility as a citizen.
