About Lakehouse Nursery

  • Lakehouse Nursery is an OFSTED OUTSTANDING (2022) nursery in Portishead, located in the heart of the Lakegrounds on the corner of Lake Road and the Esplanade. Founded in 2011, this former Victorian home was chosen for its large gardens and closeness to the lake grounds and green open spaces right on the doorstep. The nursery provides engaging, nurturing care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years, with a warm, community-minded team.

  • Four engaging playrooms are filled with unusual, open-ended resources that invite children to explore and follow their curiosity. A large proportion of time is spent outside, whatever the weather, in the extensive enclosed gardens.

  • Children love exploring the well-established gardens, which offer year-round interest in changing seasons and attract wildlife, including notably tame starlings. The archway joining the baby and toddler garden gives a secret-garden feel, and children can test their climbing skills in the trees.

  • Extra-curricular opportunities may include tennis, forest school and beach school, making full use of the local environment. Nursery pets provide additional chances to learn about responsibility, care and gentleness.

  • Could Lakehouse Nursery be the right lakeside home-from-home for your child? Book a visit and discover the gardens and Victorian house.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Mollie Tombs

I joined Lakehouse in August 2024, and I have enjoyed every bit of working here. I started working in childcare in 2014, working as a bank practitioner in a nursery. Since 2014, I have worked in a wide range of roles, such a room leader, 1:1 SEN support and deputy manager. I currently hold a BA (Hons) in Early Years Education, which I completed in 2020. My approach to childcare is child centred approach, which means that the children are the forefront of my practice and around recognising every child as a unique individual. This approach is followed through into our curriculum and daily practice at Lakehouse. I enjoy working in childcare as no day is the same, it’s always exciting and different. I love to watch the children to grow and development and in the recent years, I have enjoyed watching my team grow in confidence and this feed into their practice.
