Poppies Holmer Green is an OFSTED GOOD (2018) nursery in Holmer Green, on Watchet Lane. Next to the First School down a safe alley, our nursery cares for 3 months to 5 years with attentive safeguarding and routines that nurture security and curiosity. Open partnerships keep parents connected to every milestone.
Opened in 2015, rooms buzz with child‑initiated Early Years Foundation Stage activities, easing school transitions. Our welcoming team emphasises emotional wellbeing alongside skills like simple sign language for all ages.
Countryside surrounds enable generous outdoor access, including a nature area, mud kitchen and our nursery chickens - hatched and raised onsite for caring lessons. Opportunities may include forest school, Hartbeeps, gymnastics and French.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Stacey Montgomery

Hi, I'm Stacey. I joined Poppies Holmer Green in June 2020. I have over eight years of experience within the early years sector, including four years in a management position.

I have extensive knowledge and experience of caring for babies and young children and am passionate about providing an educational and exciting environment for them to learn, develop and grow. I hold a First-Class BA (Hons) in Childhood Welfare and Education.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum in Baby Nest is built around five key areas.

1) Passion for Lifelong Learning: We plan for individual interests, adapt activities and create enthusiastic, child-led experiences.
2) Memories that Last a Lifetime: We offer supportive settling-in sessions, strong keyworker bonds, support during transitions and weekly Hartbeeps sessions.
3) Confident Communicators: Children develop through word of the week planning, role modelling language and being given choices at mealtimes and during play.
4) Connected to Our Community: We take wellness walks, visit the local area and Holmer Green Sensory Gardens.

Review of Poppies Holmer Green

Poppies Nursery has been absolutely brilliant with my son. The staff are so warm, energetic, and genuinely caring. He's built such a strong bond with his carers that he even includes his key worker's name in a little family song we made up at home, which says everything about how safe and loved he feels there. The equipment is great and the activities are always fun and creative. On top of that, my son has a few health conditions and the team have been fantastic about supporting him and making sure his needs are met. We're really happy with Poppies and so grateful for everything they do.

We're really happy with Poppies Holmer Green. Our eldest daughter went there and now our twins are attending. The care is brilliant and the staff are warm and caring, one member of staff has been especially supportive. We really appreciate the learning and development, which is clear to see at home. Communication is great and we'd definitely recommend Poppies to other families.

Review of Poppies Holmer Green

I couldn't be happier with the care my two-year-old receives at Poppies. He loves his time there and is more than happy to go in the mornings, which is so reassuring. The staff are all very attentive, caring and show so much interest in him as an individual. I like that activities are loosely themed each week, and the staff really encourage creativity and imaginative play. Most importantly for me, the nursery prioritises outdoor play in the garden. Feedback is excellent and I have always felt staff make an effort to implement any specific care requests I have for my son. The staff work very hard and you can tell they really care. thank you all!

Poppies Day Nursery Holmer Green is such a wonderful nursery. The staff are all so friendly and accommodating to the children’s needs. What I love about Poppies is all the wonderful family events they host so we can see how our children play with the other children and meet other parents. The observations they share are also great to see how your child is developing and what they enjoy. I cannot recommend Poppies enough, my little boy loves going to nursery.

My daughter loves her time at Poppies Day Nursery And has been full-time since she was 1 year old. The staff are incredibly attentive. My daughter knows the names of all the caregivers and at the age of just 2, I think that goes to show what a great relationship the carers build with the children. My daughter has built good friendships in the nursery and goes in and comes home happy! The nursery always has lots of activities going on for the children each day and you get updates on an app at the end of each day. The nursery is always inviting us in for opportunities to see the children in the nursery and put on some lovely activities for us to join in. My little one has just started French at the nursery and can now say "Bonjour Mummy". A brilliant nursery that I could not recommend enough.

Review of Poppies Holmer Green

I have had the pleasure of entrusting my daughter to the care of Poppies Holmer Green since she was just 9 months old (now 4 y.o.), and this nursery has proven to be an excellent choice. The personnel is dedicated and caring, with genuine concern for the well-being of the children. They employ creative methods to engage the children in various activities, helping them develop both socially and intellectually. Every day my child brings a new experience home: she would tell me about countries and cultures, sea creatures, how to grow plants, pirate adventures, shapes and numbers and yoga exercises. What a surprise it was when she wrote letters from A to M (I’ve never taught her letters)! The facilities are well-maintained, providing a clean and secure space. I am grateful for the positive impact this nursery has had on my child's early development, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to any parent seeking a nurturing and enriching preschool experience for their little ones.

Our son started at Poppies in January 2024. As he is our first we were worried how he was going to settle in. He took a couple of weeks to get used to it but now he reaches out for all of the staff members at drop off. All of the staff are very friendly and kind and it’s a relief to know when we drop off in the morning he won’t only be looked after but really cared for.

My son has been with Poppies since 5 months old. They have cared for and seen him grown up to the nearly school ready boy he is today! Every step of the way has been advice or tips to support us navigating key milestones as well as celebrating all of the little things he does. No question is a silly question here! The nursery manager and his room leader, are fantastic! They go above and beyond to support him and all of his ever-changing interests. Every day their energy levels are amazing and my son can’t wait to go in and play. I don’t know what we are going to do without them when he starts school and I know we will all miss them dearly. We are nearing the end of our time at Poppies with my son starting school in September this year. I couldn’t have asked for a better nursery/preschool for my son to attend, he’s been in all 3 rooms and been so happy throughout. The staff are amazing and so kind and attentive to the children, nothing is too much trouble. They do so many fun and varied activities and my son enjoys everything he does. I can’t recommend Poppies enough!

We are so happy with Poppies Day Nursery, our daughter has been attending since she was 1 and she absolutely loves her time there. I genuinely feel a lightness when I drop her off in the morning and it makes me feel so happy to see how excited she is to go in, that it puts me in a good mood at the start of each day! The staff work very hard and are always coming up with creative activities. They also invite parents and grandparents to special events occasionally which is a nice opportunity to see the children interact with their friends and also meet the other parents. I know it's a scary time sending your little one to a nursery for the first time, but you won't regret choosing Poppies.

My daughter has now been at Poppies for nearly a year and a half; how that time has flown! She has become such a little individual and we have a lot to thank Poppies for that. She heads into nursery with barely a glance back feeling happy to head there for the day. When I ask her who her friends are, she lists many of the other children in Explorers plus her key workers! They do so much with the children every day - there's a weekly topic to their learning which we, as carers, are always clearly informed about. Poppies also makes such an incredible effort with special occasions, events and celebrations throughout the year which is so important for the children to be involved with. Thank you Poppies Holmer Green, I look forward to my daughter's continuing development with you by her side.

The nursery has a warm, fun feel and all the staff go above and beyond to look after your child and the parents too. A great balance of games and cuddles but routine and learning too. My daughter is attending the preschool at Poppies Holmer Green. She is having so much fun and enjoys her days learning a lot of new stuff. The staff is very friendly and always highly engaged. The activities like dancing, singing, reading, yoga, French lessons and gardening are available for children and very well organised. The nursery has access to the Forest School of Holmer Green Primary School which is a great opportunity for safe outdoor exploring. Regularly organised parents events are amazing. Cannot thank enough all staff and management for all their great work in creating a safe and friendly environment for children to learn and develop.

Our little boy started nursery at Poppies Day Nursery in January in the baby room. They have been super supportive of the settling in process and he is loving his days at nursery and all the activities and fun things he gets to do there. The team are all lovely and it’s so apparent they truly care for the children. We also really love the daily log each day on the app. We get far more information than a lot of our friends at other nurseries and I love getting to read and see what our little one has done each day. My son has been going to Poppies Day Nursery Holmer Green since he was 9 months old and he absolutely loves it. He comes home every day chatting about the activities he has done and the friends he has played with. The staff in Baby Nest are brilliant and talk enthusiastically about what he's been up to that day when I pick him up (with loads of detail so you know they've actually been hanging out with him, rather than a generic 'he had a great day!' which is what we experienced at other nurseries). My daughter has been at Poppies (Explorers room) for just over a month now. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. I love receiving the Daily Diary because it shows everything my daughter has been doing throughout the day along with a detailed chat at pickup times. There is a wide range of fun and educational activities, It's the French lessons that impress me! The range of different foods offered is fantastic, my daughter eats pretty much everything that is offered! The children spend a good amount of time in the garden exploring and learning about nature. A big thank you to the staff at Poppies, you're all great.

My twins have been at Poppies since just before their first birthday. They're about to move up to Explorers (the toddler room) and have loved their time in Baby Nest. The staff are welcoming and friendly and the boys love running in for cuddles. They do a range of activities every day and have weekly classes from Moo Music which they love. The facilities are great, and the separate baby garden lets the littlest children enjoy the fresh air and see their friends in the main garden. Thank you to all the staff at Baby Nest.

Our child started at the end of February and thanks to all the kind and friendly staff she has settled brilliantly. She enjoys coming to Poppies Day Nursery and is excited to see the wonderful ladies in the mornings. We enjoy seeing what she has got up to during the day with frequent photos and detailed descriptions of her activities. We love the face to face catch up at the end of the day where she comes out smiling and waving goodbye to the staff and feel comforted that she is looked after so well when we are at work.

Very pleased with everything this nursery has offered our little one since starting in September. The change we’ve seen has been amazing, learning new things all the time and growing in confidence. Really happy with the thorough daily notes uploaded to the app which is always done very promptly and with photos from the day. Also great to see what has been ate each day, means that I don’t have to worry about allergies etc. Would definitely recommend, couldn’t be happier.

Review of Poppies Holmer Green

My son has been attending Poppies Holmer Green for the past year and in that time his communication and confidence has improved in leaps and bounds! He loves his teachers and often speaks about his key worker when at home. The outdoor space is wonderful! He regularly plays in the sandpit and mud garden which is great for sensory play. The nursery has weekly sports and music sessions which adds to the variety of activities my son are involved in and they are very attentive to his needs. I would 100% recommend this nursery to my family and friends as he is very happy here.

The baby room and the nursery manager went above and beyond to make sure my little one was comfortable. I was really worried about him starting nursery as he is a bit of a mummy’s boy and quite sensitive to new faces and people but he settled in straight away. No tears at drop off. Happy to go into the nursery and always seems like he’s having fun. The baby nest team picked up on his cues and personality quickly and he’s developed and grown massively since starting. He’s very chatty and now loves his food which is amazing!

The best thing I ever did was move my little one to Poppies Day Nursery. Not only do they do everything they can for the children, but they also support the parents as well. My little one has learnt so much and it is down to the attention and care that they provide here. They upload pictures every day and a little summary of what your child has done so you can have great conversations and you have a starting point. My little one loves Poppies Nursery and so do his parents.

Our little boy has been at Poppies Day Nursery since he was 15 months (now 2 and a half), and he absolutely loves it. He always comes out with a smile on his face and tells us all the great things they have done. He is always sent home with all the crafts and cooking he does, as well as us being able to see photos on his log every day. He has great relationships with all the staff members, they are so caring and great at building a rapport with the children. They have external companies who come in to teach the children and get the most out of their days at nursery! Brilliant nursery, our second will be joining in summer! We highly recommend it!

In our opinion, Poppies Day Nursery is the best nursery around. The staff are always happy and professional, we had a few challenges at the start, with dates etc and they have gone out of their way to help settle our little one in. Even when we needed to change the hours further down the line, they have been there to support us. Poppies Day Nursery work really hard to ensure the kids have a great time from the moment they arrive until it's time to go, our little one absolutely loves it.

Both of my children have attended Poppies Holmer Green; my son for a few months during the lockdown as his preschool was closed, and my daughter (21-months) attends the nursery full time. The nursery feels like a home from home for the children. Such a beautiful setting and the staff are incredible. They are very attentive and caring, which has resulted in two very happy children and happy parents knowing how well they are looked after. My daughter has developed so well in the last 9-months; she is such a happy and outgoing child.

My grandson has been going to Poppies Day Nursery Holmer Green for the last 5 months. He loves Baby Nest and all the staff that support him in there. Every time I collect him, he is so happy. Both of my children, my son who is three and my daughter who is one started Poppies Day Nursery Holmer Green in January as we moved into the area. Both my children had previously attended another nursery and absolutely loved it. Thankfully, they love Poppies Day Nursery Holmer Green too! It took my son a little while to get settled, but now he is, he loves going every day. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and my son took an immediate shining to the room leader in preschool. My daughter is happy to go in everyday, she eats well and sleeps well whilst she's there but is also exhausted by the end of the day, which clearly means that she has been very active. The outside facilities are great and my son loves the outside kitchen. The food, which is prepared on site, sounds delicious and my two children seem to have seconds of everything most days! As a Mum, it's so good to know that they love being at Poppies Day Nursery Holmer Green and seem to enjoy everything that they do.

Review of Poppies Holmer Green

My daughter is thriving at Poppies - she loves all of the staff and the other children. It's the third nursery provider she's attended, but Poppies is the only one she's been eager to get to in the morning (the other two nurseries were also good, but clearly not as good as Poppies!). As a parent, I want my daughter to be happy, but I also want her to be learning. This is another reason I've been impressed with Poppies - my daughter has gotten really got at phonics since attending and can recognise all the letters of the alphabet. She hates learning the alphabet at home, so I'm relieved she's learning this at nursery. I would thoroughly recommend Poppies to any parent. Your little one will benefit a lot!
