About Footsteps Nursery Stafford

Footsteps Nursery Stafford is an OFSTED GOOD (2025) nursery in Stafford, based in a large period property on Newport Road with a welcoming, homely feel. The nursery provides quality childcare for children from birth to 5 years, with a calm, friendly atmosphere where children feel safe, supported and ready to learn through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated play. Families are reassured by strong, trusting relationships with a warm, nurturing team who focus on each childs wellbeing every day.
Children benefit from a stimulating environment indoors, with varied experiences that may include early communication, imaginative play, creative activities and small-group learning. Each child is supported by a key person who gets to know their needs and interests, helping them settle and keeping parents closely informed.
Outdoors, the nursery offers a fabulous garden and an on-site forest school area with an outdoor log classroom, allowing children to spend full days learning in nature. Sessions may include exploring natural materials, building dens and taking part in seasonal projects that support confidence, independence and a love of the outdoors. Parents and carers are invited to join regular activities and special events, reflecting the nurserys belief in genuine partnership with families.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Joanne Fletcher

Hello, I'm Joanne, the manager at Footsteps Nursery Stafford. I've been working in education since September 2004 and hold a BEd with QTS and NPQSL. I spent twenty years as a primary school teacher, predominantly within early years, and was an early years leader and part of the senior leadership team in my last school. Last year, I felt it was the right time to take the leap into nursery management, and I joined Stafford in April 2025.

My approach to childcare is nurturing and inclusive, fostering curiosity, independence, and a love of learning. Children thrive when they feel supported to explore and take risks in a safe, encouraging environment.

I'm really passionate about early years education and feel very privileged to support young children at such an exciting and important stage in their learning journey.

Our Curriculum

Our nursery works closely alongside Development Matters and our curriculum to ensure children have access to all opportunities. Children make good progress across the setting, and these are celebrated through observations, assessments and feedback from key workers.

Children are prepared for the next stage in their development, with rooms working closely together to ensure the curriculum flows throughout the nursery. This means children know what the expectations are daily, alongside a routine they can use throughout the day.

My Daughter has been with the nursery since September 2025, currently in movers class and I must say the staffs have been incredibly helpful, nice and supportive. The staffs in movers (can't mention names) have been kind, they sing to my girl immediately she comes in to help her settle. She can now sing some nursery rhymes and absolutely loves it in the nursery. Thank you everyone

An award winning nursery and you can understand straight away why that is. The staff are all professional and the facilities are out of this world. It is worth mentioning the leadership, the managers are exemplary and very warming and understanding of a parent's questions or feelings. You won't find better in the area in my opinion. My daughter always comes home well mannered (but sad she's leaving) and also growing in education exponentially here. Please don't feel hesitant to visit and meet the team here, you won't be disappointed at all.

My children have been attending Footsteps Nursery since they were 10 months old, having started during the lockdown period. From day one, the support provided by the nursery has been exceptional, not only for my children but also for our entire family. I've seen tremendous growth and development in both of my children, and it's been amazing to watch them flourish during these early years. Footsteps has created an environment where my children feel safe, happy, and supported. This nurturing atmosphere has allowed them to thrive, and I truly believe that a happy child makes for a happy parent. The staff have been incredibly attentive to both the children's needs and ours as parents, ensuring that we feel confident and reassured. Fantastic nursery and preschool that we would highly recommend. Our elder son has been through every room over the past 3.5 years and has been well cared for; from the babies' room, all the way through to preschool. I cannot speak highly enough about Footsteps Nursery. My little one has been there for almost 4 years (from when he was 10 months old, and I am very pleased to say that he learned so many things. The teacher's dedication and enthusiasm create a nurturing and stimulating environment that encourages children to explore, learn, and grow. It strikes the perfect balance between structured learning and creative play. Our child has developed a love for learning, thanks to the engaging activities and lessons that are tailored to be both fun and educational. Communication with parents is also a top priority at Footsteps Nursery. We were regularly updated on our child's progress. Footsteps it's more than just a nursery; it's a place where children are encouraged to be curious, kind, and confident. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful place for our child and highly recommend Footsteps Nursery to any parent looking for a nurturing, educational, and joyful early learning experience.

We have been delighted with the care and attention he has received from all of the staff, from the baby room through to preschool. My son attended from the age of 9 months until he turned 3. We had a good experience at Footsteps. He was happy throughout his time there, the staff were all caring and attentive and clearly knew my son and the other children well. It did feel at times the days could be a bit more structured - but ultimately I knew he was safe, well looked after, had good outdoor space to play in, and lots of toys and friends.

My son has been attending this nursery since around 5 months old and he is now approaching his 4th birthday, there is yet to be a day when I question our decision to place him in this nursery. All staff are extremely attentive and my son developed considerably when moving through each room/stage of his learning. The staff are lovely, and friendly and keep you informed on how your child's day has been, what they have eaten and what they have been learning today. My child struggled at first but they were so lovely and helpful with getting him settled in. They follow the curriculum and my child often comes home having learned something new. They post regular photos and updates which is lovely. They also spend lots of time outside which my child loves! The meals they prepare are excellent and they are very mindful of allergies! They are incredible compared to the childcare provider my child used to attend!

We are so grateful to the staff at Footsteps, especially those in the toddler and rising 3' rooms. The room senior really understands our little boys and we've been lucky enough for him to have had her for a couple of rooms now. She takes her time to understand the child's development level and caters for that need via play/education/conversation. Out boy loves nursery and that is down to the environment provided in the setting.

My children always receive the warmest of welcomes from all the staff teams. The staff capture wonder wow moment observations; highlighting all the fabulous activities the staff provide for our children to enjoy thought out their time at nursery. The management team are always on hand to support parents and show just as much care for the children as the staff that work directly with the children. Staff teams in both the toddler room and preschool room work closely with us as parents to support us with reaching milestones and show a true passion for what they do.

I couldn't be happier with this nursery if I tried. The girls in the Mover's room are absolutely brilliant and go above and beyond daily for the children here. We have noticed a huge boost in his development since starting. He has built valuable relationships with the staff (especially one member of staff who is just absolutely amazing) and the facilities and the whole atmosphere of the nursery is really good. Would definitely recommend and I'm going to be heartbroken when we have to take him out and send him to school!

She has learnt so much in the 18 months she has been going, the staff take great care and always informed me of everything. My sons love coming to nursery. When they started last year it was during the pandemic restrictions but all the staff made me and my sons at ease with the transition. I have one in Babies Room and one in Rising 3s. All staff are friendly and approachable and always answer any questions I have. I would recommend this nursery to friends and family.

Great vocabulary, basics of maths/numbers and most importantly the capacity of developing relations through interactions. The staff in the baby room at Stafford have been amazing. I had my first child just before the pandemic and was very nervous about sending her to nursery as she hadn't really been with anyone but us, but the girls made us both feel so welcome. Always smiling and happy to see us, my little girl settled in like a dream and came home full of smiles, I knew she'd had a great day at every pickup. Couldn't recommend them enough. Great nursery with fab facilities, especially the garden. All the ladies are great and so friendly. They eat interesting foods and do some really fun stuff. Sometimes my child comes out with a face of dry crispy snot, blocking nose and shoes on the wrong feet with dirty pants and I do wonder how much the ladies (who are lovely) are looking after them of they should be helping in the toilet and wiping noses.

Both my wife and I were very nervous about our son starting at any nursery. Having looked around all of them in Stafford, there was one stand out. Footsteps were the most welcoming and had the most child-centred approach. The rooms both inside and out are immaculately clean and are packed with lots of engaging activities and most of the toys are wooden which for some reason seemed more pleasing than plastic. When our son started they made the process very easy and he loves going and gets excited when it's his time to go. The learning book and attached photos help you as a parent see what your child is doing and how happy they look. The staff genuinely care and form real and lasting relationships and I am sure our son will remember his time at footsteps with happiness. We have recommended to several other parents and they have all been really pleased with the level of care provided.

Review of Footsteps Nursery Stafford

My daughter started full time in October and has settled really well. I was worried as she hasn’t seen a lot of people or any other babies due to lockdown and the nursery were really helpful and accommodating with organising additional days to get her settled. She has settled really well and has a really good relationship with the girls in the baby room. She loves going each day and always has a big smile on her face when we get to the front door. The food menu is great - lots of variety and different flavours. They seem to do a wide range of activities. They get to go outside most days which is great and the nursery also uses an app so we get to see photos and videos which is really good to see. The covid precautions in place are excellent and the situation has been managed really well. The nursery is very good at communicating and giving updates.

Both of my children are really happy here. The staff are always enthusiastic and helpful. My older child talks about all the fun things they do and my baby gets excited when we enter the car park. The children seem to go outside almost every day, which is great. The information provided regarding the Covid-19 situation has been excellent and it's clear staff are doing all they can in this difficult situation. I look forward to when restrictions ease and they can do Jo Jingles again, as my son loved this!

They do a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that he often tells me about. The staff are very friendly and appear nurturing with children. Overall we have had a fabulous experience with Footsteps Nursery. Our son has attended since he was ten months old and he is now in Pre School. The staff are fantastic, friendly and supportive. My son has developed amazing social skills during his time here and has great relationships with the staff and other children. The facilities are excellent, especially the outdoor spaces cushion my son really enjoys. The extra classes such as Jo Jingles and yoga are always a favourite too. Since the change of management and staff changes, the stability of familiar faces has helped our son settle quickly during room changes. The ladies in PreSchool are exceptional and express genuine interest and concern in the development and wellbeing of my son. They have always gone out of their way to listen to concerns and are continually supportive and caring and my son has gained lots of confidence with their support.

We have enjoyed watching our son develop in many different ways, the nursery has provided him with many learning opportunities. The staff have given me peace of mind knowing my son is in the best nursery in Stafford, they deliver high standards of care day after day. Each night staff give a brilliant insight on what he has done during the day. Management are quick to answer and reply to any questions such as adding extra sessions at short notice. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. All staff so kind and polite.

The staff are very friendly and bond well with the children but the communication from the nursery isn't good. I wasn't informed where to look for different notices so missed a lot of events and information. Previously wasn't informed about students caring for my child. I haven't received any information on my child's development for over a year (I was told it was due to staff changes, my son's key worker changed twice in a few months). I also noticed the hygiene slipped quite a lot lately, which may explain why my son gets ill a lot. Sadly it's not the standard it was up to last year.
