About Stepping Stones Day Nursery
Stepping Stones Day Nursery is an OFSTED GOOD (2024) nursery set within a large converted house on Eling Lane, giving it a wonderful home-from-home feel from the moment you walk through the door. Upstairs is dedicated to our under 2s with a cosy playroom and peaceful sleep room for up to 9 babies and toddlers at a 3:1 ratio. Downstairs, our early years children aged 2 to school age enjoy a beautiful main playroom, a dedicated Nuture Nest and a creative room complete with an indoor sand area and potion station.
We take inspiration from The Curiosity Approach, using natural, open-ended resources to spark curiosity and encourage children to lead their own learning. Our garden is accessible all day and features a mud kitchen, loose parts construction and plenty of space for planting and wildlife exploration.
Hearty, home-cooked meals are freshly prepared each day by our nursery chef, Angeline, and our dedicated team works closely with families to ensure every child's individual needs and routines are at the heart of everything we do.

Nutritional Approach
We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.
All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.
Meet Our Nursery Managers
Deana Heasell
Hi, my name is Deana. I joined Stepping Stones back in 1999 as a nursery assistant in the baby room, and I've never looked back! Over the years I've grown with the nursery - gaining my Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications in childcare, leading the baby room and early years room, and progressing to Assistant Manager. Today, I'm proud to share the role of Nursery Manager alongside the wonderful Dominique. Stepping Stones has been part of my life for over 25 years, and I love being part of this incredible family.

Our Commitments
Our curriculum is built around five core commitments that guide how we nurture every child.

Our Curriculum
At Stepping Stones, your child will be cherished, valued, and placed at the centre of everything we do. Once you're part of our family, you're family for life - and we're proud that past children now bring their own little ones to us, wanting them to experience the same warmth and happy memories they treasured.
We have aspects of The Curiosity Approach across all our nurseries - an inspiring ethos centred on curiosity, awe, and wonder in early childhood. Through authentic resources, loose parts, and thoughtfully designed invitations to learn, we nurture imagination and celebrate magical everyday moments.
You'll notice our nurseries feel calm and tranquil - and that's intentional. We use neutral colours, natural materials, and cosy spaces where children can settle into deep learning and explore at their own pace. By moving away from overstimulating environments, we strike the right balance between engagement and your child's well-being.
