About Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

Prima Montessori & Day Nursery is an OFSTED GOOD (2022) nursery in Gillingham, on Capstone Road at Elm Court. Our nursery blends Montessori principles with Early Years Foundation Stage learning for children from birth to 5 years, creating a secure environment where every child feels confident and ready for school. Parents value our family atmosphere and close daily partnerships that keep everyone connected.
The purpose-built setting spans three inspiring buildings. Babies and toddlers enjoy calm spaces for gentle exploration, while the middle house centres around our on-site kitchen where fresh meals spark interest in food. Pre-school children extend Montessori learning into the outdoor classroom. Our warm, experienced team brings passion and deep child knowledge to every interaction, tailoring support beautifully to individual needs.
Extensive gardens draw children outside daily, from the covered baby area to our Forest School amid trees and wildlife, complete with mud kitchen and vegetable patch. All-weather resources ensure nature stays central. Opportunities may include hands-on cooking and eco activities.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Michelle Gregory

Hello, I'm Michelle. I joined the nursery in August 2021, but I've been working in childcare since 1995. I started as an unqualified childcare practitioner and built my experience while completing my Level 3 qualification. Over time, I progressed through senior roles and developed strong leadership skills, which led me to my current position as nursery manager.

My approach is warm, responsive and child-led, supporting each child's individual needs while encouraging independence, curiosity and a love of learning. I believe in giving children the space to explore and grow at their own pace, with the support they need along the way.

I enjoy childcare because every day brings joy, connection and the chance to make a positive difference in a child's early development. Being part of those early years and watching children flourish is what makes this job so rewarding.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is built around three core strands: Confident Communicators, Independence and Secure and Healthy. Together, these guide how we support every child's development from the moment they join us.

We ensure all children hear enriched language throughout their day, using meal times as social experiences to develop communication. Every child is given a voice and a listening ear, including those who are non-verbal, where we look for gestures and cues to understand what they are expressing. Independence is nurtured through everyday activities such as putting on coats and self-care routines, as well as through play, where children are given choices about what they would like to learn.

Each child is supported by a key person to develop secure and healthy attachments. Our team helps children explore and understand their emotions rather than dismissing them, providing professional love and support. We also promote healthy habits through self-serving at mealtimes, physical activity and oral health, giving children the foundations they need to thrive.

My little boy has been thriving since being at Montessori's in Capstone. I have noticed his development has progressed massively and it gives me a peace of mind that whilst I am out working that he is in safe hands. The ladies and gentlemen who work there are fantastic and have such enthusiasm and energy. They provide me with a handover at the end of the evening which is lovely as it keeps me up to date with his day while he hasn't been with me. The management team are outstanding and have been very flexible and accommodating to anything I ask of them. If I have a question or request they always handle them straight away. They communicate brilliantly. The whole team should be very proud of themselves as they make this service such a pleasure and Nothing is ever to much. They are up to date and very modern with technology, you can also see what activities and nutrition they have had throughout the day. The manager and her team I can't give enough credit. You are all super stars .

Every child is encouraged, supported and enjoyed. Staff are friendly and so so helpful regardless of how small your enquiry is. My child went to a nursery before Prima and I had to leave them crying. I decided to move to Prima and it was the best decision. My child is happy, cheeky and loves this nursery. Now they can't wait to leave me at the door and often it takes me a while to get them to leave! Well done Prima!

Review of Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

I moved my daughter from another nursery where she wasn't happy to Prima. The staff were so welcoming and made her feel safe, happy and welcome. The children also made her feel welcome which I think is down to the work the staff put in. They are open early and close late and are happy for you to drop off and collect anytime within the opening times. They feed the children decent food and give them a choice of various activities to do during the day, which is all updated on the app. I wish I had my daughter here sooner so she got the full benefit of going here for years.

Review of Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

We chose this nursery over two years ago and visited another between then and our daughter starting, which was far closer to our house and great, but didn't compare. Having just completed our first term I would highly recommend Prima Montessori. We have asked 100 questions (maybe more) and had a variety of challenges but everything has been handled with a personal touch, a positive attitude and a very open mind. Whether it's what to feed your child or helping them settle, everything is done with your and even your parenting preferences in mind. We look forward to next term.

I am thoroughly impressed with this nursery. My son has been attending for a few weeks now and he absolutely loves it. The staff are excellent with him, providing me with peace of mind knowing he is well cared for. Prima Montessori provides a lovely, nurturing setting where my baby and toddler attend. The staff are always helpful and there to offer advice and listen to anything your children need. Both of my children go in, and come home happy after a day of wide-ranging activities, including watching chicks hatch and grow! Prima is a fantastic nursery. As a first-time Mum I was full of anxiety about sending my daughter (at just turned 1 year) to nursery 4 days per week. Initially it took her a few weeks to adjust to a new routine but the staff are so brilliant and really helped her, and me, with the settling-in process. She now absolutely loves going to nursery, she gives everyone big smiles in the morning and has grown in confidence. The nursery do so many fun activities with her every day, more than I could alone at home, and she loves them all especially messy play. Highly recommend!

Both my kids attend Prima and we have always been very happy with the nursery and their staff. Very friendly and helpful. My kids both love going and have grown very fond of all their key workers. They learn so much and do loads of amazing activities. The staff give us an update upon collection and the app is very useful to check nap times, nappy changes and what food they have eaten. The kids especially love the garden. We would highly recommend it.

I cannot rate Montessori enough. To the point, I even got my boss's son to go there. My child was massively behind with his speech and eating habits. He has come on leaps and bounds since taking him away from the childminder. Every single member of staff is always happy, and so helpful. I suffer from anxiety and the nursery has done nothing but put my mind at ease. I have no worries at all, and my child will run off and leave me to be with his peers, something he never did with the childminder. I’m always kept up to date on his progress. I just wish I had found Prima Montessori way before I did!

Prima is a high quality, nurturing, and engaging environment and my son loves attending! Moving my son from another setting has been the best decision for him, myself, and my wife as we now have peace of mind that he is getting the best start in life. Review of Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

I’m a first-time single mum by choice and found the whole experience of finding a nursery for my then 4-month-old quite overwhelming but the manager and staff made it really easy. I loved that the rooms were really broken down a bit by ability as my baby would have been tiny and completely reliant on his caregivers. I was sold once I’d learned that the babies can go in the garden when the weather is appropriate, the older children look after and hatch baby chicks and butterflies, and they even do yoga. The timings of the nursery suit long days where necessary. My son has thrived in their care and I really believe they care about him. He’s formed good attachments with the staff. They respect and work with my baby-led weaning wishes, and are responsive to any anxieties or queries I have. My son is happy and bouncing with excitement when I take him in of a morning, which makes it easier. The parent's mornings and special touches on holidays are a great touch. I couldn’t be happier.

My daughter has attended Prima for 3 years and I’ve seen her come on leaps and bounds, both in confidence and developmentally. The effort that the staff go to providing new and fun activities, themed throughout the year, to make learning fun is incredible. The kitchen staff provide a wonderful variety of healthy meals cooked onsite for the children. All of the staff are caring, friendly and nurturing creating a happy environment for the children to thrive in. The fact they have so many long-standing staff there is a testament to their manager who I can’t speak highly enough of and evidently runs a tight ship. I strongly believe Prima has prepared her well for school and I will be sad for her to leave. Then our second daughter will begin her journey there in the summer! This time around I’m not nervous as I know how good the experience will be for her.

My daughter has been at Prima since February 2021 and absolutely loves it. All staff are polite and helpful, nothing is ever too much for them and they all know each child by name, greeting everyone around the building. We live in a single-parent house and the staff know which weekends and days her dad picks her up and when she makes things to bring home the staff ensures she has something for both parents. She loves all activities and talks about all her friends from nursery all the time. Her confidence has come on leaps and bounds since she started and the lessons and teaching the staff have done with her really shines through. I have always said it's a shame Prima doesn't teach the primary school years as well, I would love for her to continue to grow in the warm, loving and family environment that has been created at Prima.

A nursery full of an abundance of kind, professional, caring, trustworthy and respectful staff. Their ability to meet the needs of all children across the nursery, including- allergies is above standards and expectations. Safeguarding is key, and Prima ensures all measures and policies of safeguarding for both children and parents are met. I couldn’t have chosen a better nursery for my twins. They have settled in so well and are absolutely doted on. The nursery manager has gone over and beyond to provide any extra support they needed to have an easy transition from being home to now being in their “home away from home”. All their meals are cooked on-site and they offer a variety of food and cater for intolerances. Prima staff are so attentive and dedicated to the children. I have zero concerns once I drop them off each day.

We are so pleased with the care and service we have received at Prima Montessori & Day Nursery. Every staff member greets us with smiles, cheerful hellos and goodbyes every day. We are fortunate to have found such a wonderful nursery for our daughter who now runs in and waves goodbye to us confidently. Excellent communication, even with a tiny scratch that our daughter may have caught herself with her nail, we are always caught up to date. The staff in the baby room are caring and consistently treat our daughter well, they know if she is having an 'off' day or when she may be unwell straight away. Our daughter has an excellent relationship with the staff and we are so grateful for their time, effort and care every day.

My daughter has been attending nursery since she was 15 months old (now coming up 3 yrs) and we have been very happy with the care she receives at Prima. She is always looking forward to her nursery days and comes out happy and excited to tell me about her day. The staff are friendly and kind and go out of their way to make the children's experience great, they keep us up to date with regular pictures and a daily diary. My daughter has developed a great bond with the staff in her room and most days she doesn't want to leave when I pick her up.

The staff at Prima are exceptional! As a mother with a child with additional educational needs who had a terrible experience in another setting, I was apprehensive at first; however, those feelings went away rather quickly. The staff genuinely care about the kids in their setting and aren’t afraid to go above and beyond to ensure the children are happy and their holistic needs are met. My son has been attending for the last six months. This is a superb nursery, I couldn't ask for a better place for my son to go to. My son needs support with his developmental delays and the staff always goes above and beyond. The children are offered indoor and outdoor opportunities daily to further their education. My eldest son attended Prima Montessori & Day Nursery from the age of fourteen months and I could not have been happier with his experience, he built amazing relationships with the staff and children during his time there. So when it come to sending my youngest son to nursery I had no doubts about where to send him. He has been attending Prima since he was twelve months old and has again built amazing relationships with the staff who are fantastic and regularly mentions his older brother which is lovely. They keep us updated with a daily diary including regular updates of his progress through exercises and pictures. The development of both my children academically and socially has been brilliant and I wouldn't send them anywhere else.

My son has been going to Prima Montessori for five months now. He had a number of settling days at the start, more than the average as my son had a bit of separation anxiety and this helped him transition to full nursery days. The staff were fantastic and over the first few weeks really took the time to get to know my son and find out what he enjoys. They even took on our reward sticker chart method for my son's toilet training! My son is thriving and I can't praise the team enough for all their efforts and kindness. I feel my son is in an environment that challenges him and is fun. It's heartwarming when he comes home and describes his day using new words and phrases that show me the staff are promoting interaction with other children and themselves.

My son attends Prima Montessori and loves it. The staff are fantastic and attentive and give excellent care to my 2.5-year-old. He has made great progress and has a lovely bond with his key worker. Staff give feedback at the end of each day, and you get a log of what activities your child has done, what they've eaten and how long they have slept that day. I can't praise the nursery enough!

I was quite apprehensive and nervous about my son starting nursery so young at the age of seven months, being the youngest but from the open day to the settling-in sessions the staff have made me feel at ease. They are polite, warm and do everything they can for him in my absence. It has made me feel confident to go to work and know he is being well looked after, learning through Montessori he has become so independent playing at home, learning new motor skills and the most sociable baby! He loves interacting with babies, children and adults everywhere we go and this has definitely come from being in the social setting at Prima nursery. We love receiving the photos, daily log and videos of him. They will be stored as special memories to come! I have also been treated with paintings of fireworks, Halloween spiders, autumn finger tree painting and more. I love the fact he is so creative and I have been given so many ideas to help me at home! Thank you to all of the staff here!

Review of Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

I have to say, my son has been going to this nursery since he was one year old and he is doing amazing. He has come a long way with his learning to speak. (two years old now) He is always asking to go back in when I pick him up. Communication with the manager and staff is fantastic, we keep each other in the loop with the progress of my son. We have another little boy who will also be joining this fab team. I must do a shout-out to the lady who looked after our first child and would love her to look after our second. Also, a shout-out to the lady for looking after our boy now, couldn't be happier with this nursery.

Review of Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

Our daughter attended Prima Montesorri and very much enjoyed her time there. She left having made friends with pupils and staff. The team are highly attentive and provide good feedback at the end of each day. This is also the case when development goals or milestones are reached. They provide a wide range of activities, both indoors and out. The menus provide a variety of food with plenty of healthy snacks on offer throughout the day. Communication is frequent via email but not overly so. Parents and carers are kept up to date with all relevant news and future plans. We highly recommend this nursery.

Review of Prima Montessori & Day Nursery

My son went to Prima Montessori & Day Nursery for a short while, but while he was there I just cannot sing their praises enough. This is such an amazing nursery, being a first time mum, I was very sceptical about finding the right nursery and after viewing a few nurseries, I fell in love with Prima Montessori & Day Nursery on their open day. My son had such a lovely bond with all the staff and they always gave me really good feedback at the end of each day and on the portal. They really put a lot of thought and love into making the nursery what it is and we were really gutted we had to leave but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything else. I will like to say a BIG thank you to all the staff at Prima for being so caring to my little one and we miss you.
