Nutritional Approach
We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.
All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.
Meet Our Nursery Manager
Simon Evakins
Hello, I'm Simon, the manager at Play Away Day Nurseries West End. I've been working in childcare since 2008 and hold a Level 3 in Childcare, a foundation degree in Working with Children, and a BA in Education and Teaching.
I began my career as a nursery apprentice in Hedge End before moving to the sister branch in Eastleigh, where I progressed to deputy manager. I then stepped into a nursery manager role and later became a senior manager, supporting other nurseries across the group. After gaining valuable experience in this role, I chose to return to nursery management closer to home and joined Play Away in April 2024.
My approach is that every child is unique and deserves the very best start in life. As a trained Schema Play practitioner, I enjoy supporting children's learning through forest school inspired outdoor activities, fostering curiosity, creativity, and exploration.

Our Commitments
Our curriculum is built around five core commitments that guide how we nurture every child.
&w=2048&q=75)
Our Curriculum
Our curriculum works side by side with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and is built around five key strands implemented across all areas of our nursery.
(1) All About Me: Children develop a strong sense of self, building positive relationships and respect for themselves and others through respectful care practices.
(2) Independence and Confidence: We create an environment where children express themselves and make choices with free access to resources, a children's committee in pre-school, and self-serving at mealtimes.
(3) The World Around Us: Children learn through exploration, sustainability and cultural awareness, supported by our Eco-Reps and celebration of diverse festivals.
(4) Enabling Environment: We inspire curiosity, awe and wonder through loose parts play and experiences that build on what children know.
(5) Wellbeing: Children have fun, form secure attachments and feel a strong sense of belonging, supported by activities such as yoga and meditation and their dedicated key person.
