About Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School is an OFSTED OUTSTANDING (2024) nursery in Finchampstead, on Nine Mile Ride. One of the few nurseries in the country to achieve this highest rating four times in a row, a rare mark of consistent excellence. Our nursery nurtures children from birth to 5 years in a secure, inclusive setting, with safeguarding and personalised care ensuring every child feels safe, valued and ready to grow. We build lasting family partnerships through open communication and shared milestones.
Our diverse team leads with quadruple Outstanding leadership, tailoring play in age-specific rooms to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. England's framework for children's learning and development up to age 5. This supports curiosity, independence and special educational needs (SEN) with expertise.
Children explore our expansive garden, complete with a bespoke growing area and greenhouse for hands-on planting and eco projects. Opportunities may include Spanish stories and nature crafts, deepening their world connection.

Nutritional Approach

We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.

All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.

Meet Our Nursery Manager

Rebecca Rowland

Hi, I'm Becca, the nursery manager at Oak Tree. I've been working in early years since 2005 when I got my first part-time job in a nursery whilst studying my A Levels. I soon realised this was more than a job and I had a true passion for childcare. After completing my A Levels in Health and Social Care and Psychology, I decided to pursue a career in childcare. I received my qualification in December 2008 and quickly progressed through the nursery. I worked as deputy manager at Oak Tree for five years and in December 2022 I took over as manager.

At Oak Tree, we love to get outdoors and explore nature. We feel it's important that children learn to look after the planet, so we joined Eco Schools and have been awarded our Green Flag. The team and I have a passion for charity and love to give back to the community.

Our Curriculum

Our mission is to transform the lives of the children and families we work with by creating an environment that supports, enhances and focuses on the child's interests and their free play choices. Our curriculum is split into three key areas.

We respect and celebrate each other as individuals, nurturing every child's sense of self and belonging and supporting them to become confident communicators who value their uniqueness and that of others. My son is now 10 months old, he's been in the Caterpiller room for 4 months and doing brilliantly well. The nursery is a wonderful, nurturing place with a lovely, friendly team who are doing an excellent job in supporting my son's physical and cognitive development. Each week he's engaging in new activities, encouraged to try new food and learning new skills. We love the daily updates and look forward to the creative gifts he brings home after every seasonal event. The team are doing a stellar job!!

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

We came to Oak Tree when I was 20 weeks pregnant, we had been to see lots of nursery's but Oak Tree was different. There was a family feeling and we could tell the staff really cared for every student. Since my son joined in September he has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 16 months old. At a stressful time the nursery were there every step of the way and a few weeks after diagnosis he was back in nursery running around in his usual routine. They manage his numbers, food and treatment with excellent communication. We get regular updates, photos and check ins if he's not having a great day. I wouldn't trust anyone else with his care and I can't wait to see him grow as he moves through the rooms. Thank you so much for all you do

Oaktree is such a wonderful nursery I can't recommend it enough for the care and support they give the children. My eldest has been at Oaktree for 3 years now, my youngest has been there nearly a year and we have always had such a positive experience with nursery. The staff are truly amazing, they have always made my children feel so comfortable and cared for. My kids have learnt so much at nursery, have made great friends and genuinely enjoy their time there. What more could you ask for!

My son absolutely loves attending Oaktree, specifically the ladybird room! It took my son a while to settle, but all the staff were patient, caring, and there to offer endless cuddles when he needs them. He now LOVES walking through the door, always with a smile on his face, and never wants to go home! I feel so confident leaving him with the girls, knowing he is in the best hands, having so much fun, with so many toys to play with, and always well fed. I am so grateful for the way you have looked after my son, and us as a family. We couldn't ask for any more!!

My son is absolutely thriving at Oaktree nursery. He's only been attending since May but each time I pick him up I can tell how much he loves it from his huge smiley face. He has made great bonds with the staff and everyone is lovely. We receive lots of updates throughout the day which we love. He loves his food at each meal time. The managers are very attentive and are always on hand to answer questions that I have. We couldn't be happier and am so trusting of everyone at the nursery. I am so glad we chose this nursery for him. Highly recommended!

My son had a fantastic time at Oaktree. Communication was excellent and the only reason we had to leave was moving out of the area. The nursery was kept to a high standard, had lots of activities and we were impressed by how every member of staff seemed to know every child's name even if they weren't in their specific care.

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

Although this review show just for July, this is an overall review that covers the past couple of years our daughter has been at Oak Tree as she has just left to move up to the next school. Admittedly I have not been directly involved as much as my wife, but we knew we wanted our daughter to go to Oak Tree the second we completed the initial viewing. It is like when you buy a house, you can walk into 4x or 5x but then one hits you and you know THAT IS THE ONE. This is how we felt about Oak Tree and I have seen nothing but excellence from them. Our daughter loved going to this Nursery and I have seen her grow in confidence week on week. She has always been happy to go in, and talked about her day with happiness. What more could you want? The staff were great and we would recommend Oak Tree to anyone/everyone looking for a fantastic, homely feeling, safe and happy Nursery for your child. thanks to everyone who works there !!

We couldn't be more grateful for the incredible care and support our daughter received during her two years at The Oak Tree Day Nursery. From the very beginning, the staff made us feel welcome and reassured, and it quickly became clear that this was more than just a nursery - it was a nurturing, joyful environment where children are truly seen and celebrated. Our daughter absolutely thrived here. She formed strong bonds with the teachers and her peers, grew in confidence, and developed a real love for learning. The activities were always creative and engaging - from outdoor play and arts & crafts to early literacy and number skills, everything was thoughtfully planned to spark curiosity and support development. The communication from staff was excellent, and we always felt informed and involved. It gave us such peace of mind knowing our daughter was in such capable, caring hands every day. We are so grateful to have found such a family-oriented, caring and welcoming nursery for our two children (aged 1 and 2.5). The communication from staff is excellent, the children are engaged in a range of activities every day, and meals are varied and healthy. I would unreservedly recommend this nursery to any friend looking for childcare for their toddler; if we weren't moving out of the area, I would be asking to increase the children's sessions!

Oak Tree helped my son settle into Nursery life very quickly. Always warm and welcoming, and quick to learn the toys and books that would engage him. A great range of themed areas in terms of toy/activity areas. And a good-sized outdoor space. Regular seasonal activities to involve the whole family. Healthy fresh food, not just processed 'kids food' that we saw at other nurseries.

Overall, a good nursery with caring staff and a safe environment for them to develop. Our two children have attended with one being neurodiverse, Both have enjoyed the nursery and have been well looked after. A big shout out to the staff. The fees are higher than others in the area, and there is not as much flexibility with the provider, however, overall it is a good nursery and we would recommend it.

We have had a wonderful 3+ years at Orchard House Oak Tree, the staff have always cared for my son and helped him to grow in confidence. The outdoor area was a highlight. The variety in food is fantastic for my very fussy eater! handovers in recent years have sometimes been lacking and we would welcome more pictures of the day! But overall a fantastic place! We will miss Orchard House.

Both my boy and our family loved going to Oak Tree Nursery. We started our journey with Oak Tree when the little one was 5 months old and he is now 2. The staff, from receptionists to nursery nurses are beyond amazing. Our boy really bonded with the key person and the key person was engaging with our boy in a loving way. If possible I would love to have our boy stay in Oak Tree forever. Would definitely recommend it to everyone who’s close by.

Oak Tree is a lovely nursery, with a lovely family feel to it. The staff is kind, caring and well trained. They have been looking after our daughter since she was just over one and we have had an incredible experience throughout the years, up until pre-school. We knew she was being looked after in a safe and cheerful environment. The nursery is well equipped with toys and items for all ages and they make sure to always engage the children in new activities. I would highly recommend this nursery.

Since 2021, my son has been attending the nursery and preschool at Oak Tree Day Nursery. He is happy and cheerful to go to preschool. He has thrived and feels more confident with the support of the lovely staff. He is able to be himself which as a parent makes me feel reassured. The staff are friendly, approachable, caring and dedicated. The communication through the app allows the parent to be updated with the daily activities taking place at the nursery, hence this good communication allowed me to feel more involved in my son's playtime/ activities. I will definitely choose the same nursery in the future.

The staff clearly care about the children so much. Absolutely brilliant “readiness for school” curriculum from phonics to practising getting changed for PE to getting school uniform in from all the schools the children are going to so they can get used to it. Spectacular graduation ceremony for pre-schoolers, a proper tear-jerker - with so much time and effort put in by staff. I would say communication could be slightly better from management and better information provided when children change rooms but that’s about it.

Oaktree looks after our daughter two days a week. We noticed they were outstanding in Ofsted, which was a clear sign of high standards. Our daughter was settled in with the utmost care and attention, she's so happy, and there's no crying with drop-off and pick-up! The rooms are so well presented, and they're lots of toys and activities that our daughter enjoys with the other children. The staff are amazing, friendly and caring, and you can see their dedication to the welfare of all the children.

We love Oaktree Day Nursery (Finchampstead) everyone who works there is always really friendly and helpful. My son has been attending since he was 1 year old and moved through the different rooms. They have all been amazing and my son's confidence and social skills have improved greatly. We now have a daughter and I would not hesitate to send her here when I return to work, as I know she will be very well looked after. We have recently moved to the UK from a different country and needless to say I was very nervous about my children starting nursery in a foreign country, especially as they were very attached to their previous school. From day one, Oak Tree Day Nursery (Finchampstead) has been incredible. The staff communicate beautifully with parents, there are always different activities and the children are happy, busy and friendly. My boys have settled so well in a very short period of time and I appreciate the constant updates from the nursery. They are excited to go and they tell us all about their happy days in the evenings. The food is unbelievable as well. One member of staff has been the most incredible lady to my children and her kind, gentle nature has certainly made our boys feel right at home. I will be very sad to leave this amazing nursery when they start reception, I cannot recommend it enough!

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

My little boy started at Oak Tree Day Nursery (Finchampstead) at 4 months old which at first I was quite nervous of. However, my worries were soon taken away due to the kind and caring staff making me feel so at ease. My son loves coming to nursery and is always made to feel welcomed on arrival. I love the communication throughout the day so I can see how he is doing regarding his meals, nappies and sleep. The staff in baby room have also been putting on some lovely photos so I can see what he’s been up to during the day as well as a detailed handover in the evening. Now my son is 6 months and has begun weaning, he very much enjoys the food he is offered and there is a great variety of foods available. He does suffer from food allergies and this has been handled extremely well and feel totally at ease that it is being managed perfectly while he is at nursery. I would 100% recommend Oak Tree Day Nursery to anyone.

My daughter started going to this nursery when she was around 10 months old and she is 1 year old now. She was a very picky eater from the beginning which made me more concerned. The staff in Oak Tree Day Nursery, especially from caterpillar room, took so much care when it comes to her mealtimes from day 1 and we can definitely see improvement towards her daily meal intake now. A big thanks to the team. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. My daughter enjoys going to her nursery with a big smile on her face every day. My son has attended Oaktree since he was 4 months old. He is now 3. He is the most caring, outgoing, and loving little soul. We have Oaktree to thank for that. The team there has supported every step of his development, even down to his fussy eating and reluctance to sleep. My little boy joined Oak Tree Day Nursery (Finchampstead) during the pandemic and while I was nervous about the thought of leaving him somewhere that I had never seen the inside of, I was immediately reassured by his key worker. My little one is not great with strangers but yet he bonded very quickly with all the nursery staff. He has come on leaps and bounds in his language, knowledge and understanding and that is definitely down to nursery. The parent zone app that the nursery use helps us stay up to date throughout the day with whats happening and is regularly updated with pictures and messages of activities that the children are doing. The nursery also give parents the opportunity to feel involved by setting up events, theme days and challenges but with no pressure to take part. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Oak Tree Day Nursery (Finchamsptead) to anyone considering it.

Oak Tree Day Nursery (Finchampstead) is a fantastic nursery! My little girl has been there for the last eighteen months and loves it. The staff are brilliant, caring, fun and committed to supporting the child’s development. We are so pleased with how quickly our daughter has settled into Oak Tree Day Nursery. The observations on her are very detailed with clear next steps. She comes home every day telling us about what she has done, singing a new song or repeating a phrase from a book. I have had 2 children at Oak Tree Nursery from the first day I felt secure with my baby at nursery. I felt my childs need were paramount. During Covid the advice and support was excellent to get us all back to work and providing a safe environment for the children. My daughter has just started at Oak Tree Day Nursery going two full days per week. I was so concerned she wouldn’t settle or wouldn’t enjoy herself after months of lockdown stuck at home, but I didn’t need to waste the effort of worrying. She settled in straight away, and the team put my mind at ease through regular updates on the ParentZone app. We had a garden settling in session with her key worker which was brilliant, and then four additional part-day sessions to help her get used to the change which was a great way to transition. And since then she’s been super happy on drop off and pick up and has settled in so quickly with no tears! The team are brilliant at pick up with filling me in on the day, and using the app to explain what she’s eaten, and what she’s been up to. And she’s used to all the different adults in the room which is great. I would highly recommend this nursery!!

The Finchampstead branch is fantastic. My son has been with the Nursery 4 days a week, full days, for over 3 years and has just finished and started school. They really understood how to help take care of him through the years and are incredibly supportive and caring. My son has developed into a proud young boy, who is confident with speech, numbers, alphabet, social interaction and a whole host of other skills. He has developed a great personality and has always enjoyed visiting the nursery daily. Food provided is all cooked fresh on-site and the menu daily is very good, they also to take into account any dietary requirements. I highly recommend the nursery and staff who have helped my son, enjoy his early years and is now clearly demonstrating his school readiness. Thank you Oak Tree!

Having our child attend this day nursery has been an absolute dream. The ladies are so attentive and genuinely caring for each child. It feels like we are part of an extended family. Now that my son is moving onto to reception there is so much sadness to leave this nursery behind. Meals were well thought out and there was good variety. The garden is fabulous and the children absolutely love it. All the games, books and activities are well thought out and my son enjoyed his day at the nursery, every day. Safety measures in place for Covid-19 provide good peace of mind, whilst keeping the children's' best interests and mental well-being in mind. My son has attended 4 different nurseries in his life and none can even compare to Oak Tree Day Nursery. Simply Amazing!

My daughter has gone to Oak Tree since she was a baby. She loves it, always dying to get out of the car when we pull up and sometimes I don’t even get a goodbye as she’s eager to get into The bumblebees room. She has formed great relationships with the children and the staff in the nursery and always talks about the staff in the car on the way home. The staff at Oak Tree are so friendly and always make the effort to tell me about my daughters day and what foods she has eaten. They keep me informed of her progress and I love that they take photos for me to see what she gets up to. I can’t recommend Oak Tree enough.

I have had at least one of my three children at Oaktree for the past 7-years. The staff are exceptional - they are professional and caring, and make each child feel special, and the parents part of their child’s experience. I have particularly been impressed with the way Oaktree has handled the current virus situation and welcomed the children back. My children have always been very happy at Oaktree, and I couldn’t recommend the nursery more to prospective parents.

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

We would like to thank the staff at Oaktree for helping our daughter feel more settled at nursery in the last two weeks. Our daughter has become very unsure and afraid of other people during lockdown and was very upset when she first returned to nursery last week. The staff kept in touch with me and let me know that she was doing really well and each time she attends she settles really quickly now. These are strange times and the nursery has been fantastic at giving us ideas for activities whilst stuck at home and being really supportive for returning when parents are ready to do so. I have always been really happy with Oaktree and would highly recommend this nursery to anyone who is looking for high quality, considered childcare at any age.

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

My son has been attending Oak Tree Day Nursery for the past year, he has been in bumblebees and now is in Pre School. The care my son receives is outstanding and he has always been very happy there. He has a varied diet, eats really well and is always eager to try new foods. He has made some lovely friends and is very attached to his key worker and the whole preschool team. He knows every member of staff and they all know him, he is never ignored and they encourage his curiosities and active nature. The Manager has always been a pleasure to deal with and no matter how busy she is, she always has time for you and will go above and beyond to help. I highly recommend Oak Tree Day Nursery!

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

I chose this nursery for my son due to the warmth and detailed information given by the staffing on our show round. Since then I have continued to be overwhelmed by the exceeding of expectations with everything this nursery has to offer. My son settled very quickly and loves attending daily. I feel so happy and reassured at how much my son loves it. The nursery and its staffing and communication feels like a family set up. We feel very included as a family and reassured with everything my son experiences. The communication and approach around the covid situation and follow up has exceeded all my expectations around the professionalism, expertise and operation of a top of its class daily function. It is by far and above the best I have seen when comparing to my friend's children's nurseries and I am so happy and proud that my son has the privilege of attending Oak Tree.

Review of Oak Tree Day Nursery and Pre-School

Since both of my children starting nursery in June 2019, they have grown in confidence and have come on in leaps and bounds with their development. All the staff are warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. My children are so happy coming to nursery and always talk about how much fun they have had. Would 100% recommend.
