About Flitwick Day Nursery
Flitwick Day Nursery is an OFSTED GOOD (2025) nursery in Flitwick, offering a welcoming setting where children are supported to feel safe, confident and curious as they learn through play. Our team focuses on secure relationships and calm routines, helping children settle happily and giving parents reassurance from the very start.
Learning is shaped by the Early Years Foundation Stage and delivered through purposeful, play-based experiences. These may include creative play, early language, stories, sensory activities and opportunities for growing independence.
Outdoor play is a real strength of the nursery, with three distinct garden spaces designed around different ages and stages. Children benefit from regular fresh-air play and exploration, while pre-school children enjoy access to an outdoor classroom that supports free flow between indoor and outdoor learning across the day.
Depending on the season and children’s interests, outdoor experiences may include active play, sand and water play, climbing, bikes and sensory or music-based features that encourage curiosity and confidence.
Families are valued as partners, with clear communication helping parents feel informed and supported. This collaborative approach keeps children’s wellbeing at the heart of the nursery experience.

Nutritional Approach
We believe food is fundamental to healthy growth, happy minds, and positive lifelong habits. In the earliest years, what children eat shapes taste preferences, supports brain development, and lays the foundations for long-term health.
All meals are freshly prepared on site each day using quality, seasonal ingredients. Our menus are developed with expert guidance, designed for inclusion, and go beyond Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. We want every child to become a confident, curious eater.
Meet Our Nursery Manager
Joanna Ellington
Hello, I'm Joanna, the manager at Flitwick Day Nursery. I've been working in childcare since 2011 and joined Family First as a volunteer before securing a permanent position. I completed my Level 3 in Childcare and Level 3 in SEN with the company, and my career has taken me through various roles including manager, out of school club area manager, and supporting nurseries that needed extra help. I joined Flitwick in November 2024.
I focus on providing a safe, nurturing environment where every child is seen, valued, and supported as an individual. Learning through play, curiosity, and positive relationships is at the heart of what the nursery does.
I love seeing children thrive, and I find it especially rewarding to support children with special educational needs. Understanding each child's individual strengths and needs means they feel included and able to reach their full potential.

Our Commitments

Our Curriculum
At Flitwick Day Nursery, we believe every child has the potential to flourish. Our ethos ensures that when children leave us, they are brave, empathetic, active learners and respectful individuals. We bring this to life using our nursery bear, who travels into a new story each month, providing exciting learning experiences that help children explore and apply our values.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced from babies through to preschool, ensuring clear progression in learning. We focus on nurturing secure relationships, curiosity and a sense of belonging, with strong emphasis on building independence, fostering a love of books and stories, developing social skills and encouraging children to become active learners who explore and persevere.
By preschool, children are confident, capable learners who can express their ideas, manage their self-care and work positively with others, well prepared for their next steps while remaining rooted in play, exploration and strong relationships.
