The Government has announced that applications for the expansion of childcare funding from 9months + will start on the 12th May.
Eligible working parents will be able to access 15 hours of funded childcare from September 2024.
This marks a significant shift from the previous policy, which limited funded childcare to children over the age of 2. The expansion of this program is expected to significantly ease the financial and logistical burdens on working families, enabling more parents to return to work or increase their working hours with the peace of mind that their young children are in safe, nurturing environments.
How to Apply
For working parents interested in taking advantage of this new offer, mark your calendars for 12th May, when the application process officially opens. Detailed information about eligibility and the application process can be found on the Childcare Choices website.
Notice for Parents of Two-Year-Olds
In anticipation of the upcoming 15-hour entitlement for working parents of two-year-olds, beginning on 1st April, it’s crucial to ensure all applications are submitted to HMRC by no later than the 28th March, in preparation for the Spring term.
For parents aiming for future terms, it’s advised to submit applications ahead of the term when your child becomes eligible – ideally before April, September, or January. Detailed recommended application timelines are available on the official GOV.UK page under “Apply for free childcare if you’re working.”
The government’s announcement is a welcome development for working parents across the country. By making childcare more accessible from a younger age, this policy not only supports the financial well-being of families but also contributes to the social and developmental needs of the youngest members of our society.
